Junior National Meet Summary:
Aquazot Men Break SCS Record in 200 Medley Relay
Aquazot sent a group of seven athletes to compete in the NSCA Junior National Championships in Orlando, Florida last week. The meet provided some great competition for 18 & under age athletes from teams around the nation.
The Aquazot men’s team of just 5 swimmers had a great meet, highlighted by their fast relay swims. In the 200 Medley Relay on the meet’s first day, the team of Jared Namba(Backstroke), Cameron Price(Breaststroke), Chris Wong(Butterfly), and Josh Smith(Freestyle) posted a quick time of 1:33.50, which gave them a 7th place podium finish. The time was also a new Southern California 15-18 men’s record, improving on the 1:35.16 time set by Nova in 2001. The 400 freestyle relay team of Josh Smith, Michael Hauss, Chris Wong, and Jared Namba also placed 6th in the 400 free relay with a very good time of 3:04.43.
In the individual events, Daniela Georges, just 13 years old, had a meet filled with solid performances. She posted best times in the 200 IM(2:07.06), 50 fly(26.04), 100 fly(56.70), and the 50 backstroke(26.25). Her 50 backstroke time placed her 25th fastest in the meet.
Annie Tran was hampered by a sore back at the meet, but she still managed to swim respectable times in the 50 fly(27.09) and the 200 fly(2:11.19).
Jared Namba also swam very well last week, with new best times in the 50 back(23.48), the 100 back(50.85), the 200 back(1:51.56), the 50 fly(24.01), the 100 fly(50.50), and the 200 fly(1:51.24). Jared’s efforts put him into the finals in the 100 back(26th place) and the 100 fly(32nd place).
Cameron Price also had a great meet, with impressive swims in the 200 Breaststroke and 400 IM. In the 200 Breaststroke, Cameron’s time of 2:05.36 was good for 22nd place, and his 4:03.12 in the IM was a personal best by over 5 seconds.
Josh Smith was fast in the sprint free and backstroke events, which are his specialty. His times in the 50 free(21.32), and the 100 free(46.12) were both lifetime bests, as were his 100 back time of 51.03, and his 200 back time trial swim of 1:49.38. His top finish was 20th in the 100 free, as well as a 24th place in the 100 back, and 31st place in the 50 free.
Chris Wong was the only Azot swimmer to crack the 1:40 barrier in the 200 free, with a 12th place finish in 1:39.71. Chris also had a very good 200 fly swim, as he was the only Azot swimmer to place in the top-8 in an event at junior nationals, with a lifetime best time of 1:49.01.
Michael Hauss swam to a 14th place finish in the 200 free, with a solid time of 1:40.03. Michael also had a solid swim in the 200 fly, with a time if 1:51.73.
