As most of you hopefully know by now, the pool we use for home meets, Hazen High School pool, is in danger of being closed next year. Closing would impact the BCST by taking away our home pool for 5 of our 6 hosted events. This action is due to budget cuts in the Renton School District. The solution to this issue is twofold. The first part is to raise $60,000 to cover operating expenses for next year only. The second part is to create a budget to make the Renton school pools self-sustaining and therefore not subject to state and local budgeting. To this end they have doubled the fees charged for hosting a meet.
The Bellevue Club Boosters have decided to make a visible effort to help with the cash flow issue by donating $10,000 to the fund raising campaign. We felt that we needed to step up and hopefully lead other clubs and businesses who benefit from the pool to make similar donations. By last count, the group had raised $30,000 with the Bellevue Club money being the largest single donation.
The Board wanted to share with you this decision for use of our
discretionary funds. You may also reference the March
Board meeting minutes to see a more detailed discussion of
this action by the board. The minutes are located on our
website under 'Boosters' (visible only to logged-in accounts
). As always, any member of the Board would be happy to
answer any questions you have regarding this matter.
