Four Aquazot Swimmers Selected as High School Scholar Athletes


Molly Jubas and Christopher Wong have been selected as University High School ’s Scholar Athletes of the Year. This award honors the top scholar athletes from the four high schools in the Irvine Unified School District .
There are approximately 2400 students at Uni High, and Molly and Christopher were picked (along with 6 other Uni High students) to represent Uni High at a special banquet hosted by the Irvine Exchange Club. At this banquet, a final male and female will be selected as the top city scholar athletes. To be selected as a scholar athlete, the students must have both a strong academic and athletic background.

Casey Mims has been selected as JSerra Catholic High School's Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 4th consecutive year.

Cameron Price has been selected as St. Margaret's Episcopal High School's Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.

 Here are Molly, Christopher, Casey and Cameron’s high school bio’s:

 Molly Jubas: Academically, Molly has a 3.75 GPA and is an AP Scholar. She has been on University High’s Honor Roll and the California Scholarship Federation during all 4 years.

Athletically, she has been a member of the Girl’s Varsity Swim Team for all 4 years, a member of Pacific Coast League Girl’s Swimming Championship Team for all 4 years. Molly swam in 4 CIF Division 1 Championships and is a member of the 2010 and 2011 CIF Division 1 Championship Teams. She currently is a 2-time NISCA All-American. She is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and holds a University High School Record. Molly is on the all-time UNI Top 5 Time board in 5 events. Molly represented the United States in the Maccabiah Pan American Games held in 2008 in Buenos Aires where she won a total of 9 medals – 4 of which were gold. She also represented the United States in 2009 World Maccabiah Games in Israel where she won two silver medals.  Molly was honored as a Finalist in the Orange County Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete in 2010.

Molly has played an active role in her community. She was Publicity Chair for the UNI Save Darfur Club and was a UNI Impact Mentor. She is a member of UNI’s Model United Nations (and received an Orange County Commendation) and UNI’s Med Club. Molly has been a National Junior Board Member of Maccabi Sports for Israel since 2008. She has volunteered teaching water safety and swimming at the Merage JCC of OC for 3 years and has been a paid lifeguard and customer service specialist during those same 3 years. The Merage JCC of Orange County and Blue Ray Management Aquatic staffs currently employ Molly.

She will be swimming and studying Public Health on an athletic scholarship at Tulane University in New Orleans in the fall.

Christopher Wong: Academically, Christopher has a 4.60 GPA and is one of 13 students who were selected to graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors. He is a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Honor. He also has been on University High’s Honor Roll and the California Scholarship Federation for all 4 years.

Athletically, he has been a member of the Boy’s Varsity Swim Team for all 4 years. He has been the OC Register’s Freshman/Sophomore/Junior Swimmer of the Year in each of his respective grades, and he has also been selected to their All-County First Team in each of these years. He is the 2011 CIF-SS Division 1 200 IM Champion as well as the 2010 CIF-SS Division 1 Butterfly Champion (as a junior). He currently is a 10-time NISCA All-American. He is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and holds 7 out of 11 of University High’s Boy’s Swim Team records.

He also is the president of University High’s Support Ability Club, which raises money for scholarships for high school seniors needing assistance.

He has been a member of the Aquazot Swim Club for the past 11 years and will study engineering at Stanford University in the fall.    

Casey Mims :  Casey Mims has been honored as a Scholar-Athlete at JSerra Catholic High School for the 4th consecutive year.  Academically, Casey has an overall 4.45 GPA.  She has been on JSerra’s Principal’s Highest Honor Roll, National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation for all four years.  She was also honored by the USA Achievement Academy Who’s Who in Math, Scholar at Large and in Leadership for 2009-2010.
Athletically, she has been a member of the Aquazot Swim Club since 2009,  Girls Varsity Swim Team, Most Valuable Swimmer for four years, League Champion for 2 years and holds 7 of 11 school records.  She has twice been selected as the OC Register’s Athlete of the Week, and to the All County Team each year.  She is a four year NISCA All-American, four year USA All American and an NISCA Academic All-American andUSA Academic All-American as well.   She’s been a mentor and tutor to students at JSerra for 3 years and a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of San Juan Capistrano and Special Olympics Orange County.

Casey competed at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha .  Since training with Brian Pajer at the Aquazot Swim Club, she has qualified to compete again at the 2012 Olympic Trials,  made the USA National Junior Team last year and the USA All American Team for Dublin .  She will be swimming for Cal Berkeley  (Go Bears!) on an athletic scholarship in the fall, with no idea what she wants to study!

Cameron Price is another Aquazot Scholar Athlete.  Cameron has a 4.44 GPA and was inducted in the Cum Laude Society as a Junior.  He also received the Princeton Book Award as a junior and the National Certificate of Honorable Merit Cum Laude for outstanding performance in the National Latin Examination, AP Scholar, and been on the Headmaster’s Honor Roll for all 4 years. 

Athletically he has competed on the Varsity Swim team for 4 years and finalled in Division III CIF every year, League Champion for 4 years, St. Margaret’s Most Valuable Player for 2 years, 500 free league record holder, and a school team record in the 100 fly.  Cameron has competed at the NCSA Junior National Championships in the breaststroke and medley races for two years and qualified in the Summer Junior National Championships for his second year.  He is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Cameron has volunteered at the Capistrano Boys and Girls Club for two years mentoring disadvantaged youth.  He has also volunteered at Human Options which is a center for abused women and children.

He has been a competitive swimmer for 11 years but has proudly been a member of Aquazot Swim Club for almost two years.  In the fall he will be leaving sunny California to attend Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.  He will either major in Pre-Med or Economics/Engineering.
