JR Nationals: Williams Makes Olympic Trials Cut

2011 Junior Nationals

The Bellevue Club Swim Team had a strong showing at the 2011 Summer Junior National Championships.  8 BCST swimmers qualified to participate in the fastest 18 & Under meet in the country held this year in Palo Alto on the campus of Stanford University.

Every swimmer had memorable moments of success at the meet.  Anna Keane dropped an amazing 6 seconds in her 200 IM.  Ed Kim finaled in the 100 Free and scored the fastest 100 free in the country for 15 year old boys. Kalena Laurent broke the club record in the 100 Fly.  And Steve Sholdra went 3 for 4 on best times, and crushed his 800 Free time by nearly 10 seconds.

The three graduating senior boys went out in style as well.  Jimmy Deiparine, who will be attending Cal Poly in the fall managed to shatter his best times in the 100 & 200 Breast, dropping close to 6 six seconds combined.  Ethan Hallowell felt at home in his future college pool and placed 20th in the 50 Free as well as survived his first ever swim off in the 200 Free.  Paolo Stanchi is off to SMU, but before he left he swam 100% best times in 5 events.  All 3 of these guys will be missed.

Special attention needs to be given to young Kim Williams.  The little 14 year old girl had a breakout swim in her 400 IM, dropping 9 seconds from her club record best time, and beating the Olympic Trials standard by nearly 6 seconds with a time of 4:49.76.

Great stuff, and a great way to end the season for BCST.

P.S. Cynthia Hallowell was once again a Saint as she aided and assisted an incompetent coach with the swimmers all week.  Thank you!
