NVST Swimmers Shatter Team Records at Speedo Gold Sectional Meet

  7 members of the Napa Valley Swim Team rewrote the team record book at the 5 day California/Nevada Speedo Gold Sectional Swim Meet, held in Huntington Beach, California. Some of these records included surpassing both Senior and specific Age Group team records. These NVST athletes set a total of nineteen new team records. Hosted at Golden West Community College in Huntington Beach, the Section meet brought together 800 of the best swimmers from throughout California and Nevada. The swimmers who represented NVST at this meet were Megan Minor (13 years old), Mia Facey (14), Alex Swanson (15), Haley Murphy (16), Elise Roberts (16), Nicholas Meyer (16), and Megan Morris (17).


The NVST swimmers showed some great teamwork in crushing a pair of team Senior relay records. In the Women’s 400 medley relay, the team of Megan Minor, Elise Roberts, Mia Facey, and Megan Morris earned 14th place with a 3:57.22, breaking the previous mark by almost 8 seconds (4:05.21, LaRochelle, Eklund, Martin, Phillips, 2005). In the Women’s 400 freestyle relay, the team of Mia Facey, Alex Swanson, Haley Murphy, and Megan Morris earned 19th place with a 3:33.14, surpassing the existing mark of 3:37.37 (LaRochelle, Price, Juchau, Miller, 2002). 

Mia Facey competed in the 50 freestyle (24th place), setting a new 13-14 record with a time of 24.16 (previous record of 24.53 was held by Chardonnay Biter-Mundt); 100 freestyle (18th place), setting a new 13-14 record with a time of 52.27 during her prelims swim and breaking that new record with a time of 52.10 during her finals swim (previous record of 52.28 was held by Natalie LaRochelle); 100 butterfly (8th place), setting a new 13-14 and Senior record with a time of 56.41during her prelims swim and breaking that new record with a time of 56.21during her finals swim (previous record of 57.38 was held by Elise Roberts); 200 butterfly (12th place), setting a new 13-14 record with a time of 2:05.82 during her prelims swim and breaking that new record with a time of 2:04.62 during her finals swim (Facey broke her own previous record of 2:11.64). Elise Roberts competed in the 100 breaststroke (21st place), setting a new 15-16 and Senior record with a time of 1:06.21 during her prelims swim and breaking that new record with a time of 1:05.98 during her finals swim (Roberts broke her own previous record of 1:06.76); 200 breaststroke (21st place), setting a new 15-16 and Senior record with a time of 2:21.48 during her prelims swim and breaking that new record with a time of 2:21.04 during her finals swim (Roberts broke her own previous record of 2:22.47).

Other strong swims worthy of mention were Megan Minor's personal best of 1:00.51 during her lead-off swim in the 400 medley relay; Nick Meyer’s personal best of 1:00.71 in the 100 breaststroke; Megan Morris' 24.39 in the 50 freestyle and 52.77 in the 100 freestyle; Alex Swanson’s 53.92 in the 100 freestyle; Elise Roberts’ 2:09.59 in the 200 individual medley, Haley Murphy's 55.43 in the 100 freestyle and Mia Facey’s 2:07.16 200 individual medley.

The excellent relays and several individual scoring swims scored a total of 93 points, earning NVST its highest ever Sectional finish of 6th place in the Women’s Small Team category.
