We want to wish everyone Happy Holidays!
The 2013 Board has some great news to share with you for our 2013 Swim Season regarding the Coaches, Website and Registration.
A note from Jack:
Dear Lucas Valley Swimmers and Parents,
I hope this letter finds you and your family enjoying a wonderful holiday season. I could not be happier to be returning as Head Coach of LVST in 2013! Amanda was exactly right (did you read her letter?) when she said that the Lightning are not just a team, but a family - and while I am sad that she will not be returning as a coach, I know we will see her during the upcoming season. Most importantly, we will carry the lessons that she taught us during the last two seasons about our swimming strokes, as well as about sportsmanship, respect, and spirit, into this season and use them to make it the best one yet!
While we say goodbye to Amanda, I am sure that you will join me in welcoming and will look forward to working with two wonderful new assistant coaches, Jenny Garanina and Lea Reizman. Their experiences, both in swimming and in other sports, as well as their heartwarming personalities and enthusiasm for the sport of swimming make them a great fit for our team.
It’s not too early to start thinking about your goals for the upcoming season - it will be here before we know it. Let’s all get ready to work hard, reach for our individual and team goals, and have a boatload of fun while doing it! See you in March!
As Jack said, we are pleased and excited to welcome our two new assistant coaches to help Jack in 2013. Bios are below:
Jenny Garanina; Jenny grew up in San Francisco where she began swimming at age 6 with San Francisco Recreation and Park. In high school, her family moved to Marin County so that Jenny could attend Drake High School where she joined the high school Water Polo and Swim teams and the Marin Pirates Swim Club. Jenny swam at College of Marin for two years and continued to swim with the Marin Pirates. Her favorite events are the 100 fly, 200 free and 500 free. She began teaching group and private swim lessons 5 years ago and most recently has helped to coach and teach lessons at Sequoia Aquatics.
Jenny is currently a student at Saint Mary’s College where she is studying psychology. When not on the pool deck Jenny likes to hike, hula dance, do yoga, and eat. Jenny’s very excited to start working with the LVST swim team!
Lea Reizman; Lea grew up in Lucas Valley and swam for the Lucas Valley Swim Team for 12 years. She was part of the 8 and under medley and freestyle relays whose records still stand today. In high school, she swam for the Terra Linda Trojans and was an MCAL finalist and North Coast Section Scholar Athlete each year. She continued her swimming career when competing for the U.S. in Modern Pentathlon and for the UCLA Triathlon team. She is looking forward to returning to her roots to coach the team where her love of swimming began.
Jack Naylor; as most of you know, Jack has been attending Dominican University to get his MBA and is very close to getting this degree. Jack has been fortunate enough to be accepted to a one week intense program to study abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With this acceptance, Jack will be gone from LVST from March 8 to 15. We want to congratulate Jack on this once in a lifetime opportunity. With that said, we feel that Jenny and Lea will do a great job filling Jack’s BIG shoes while he is gone.
We have launched our new website: www.lvst.org and it looks awesome! You will be receiving an email soon to invite you to log in to set up passwords, take tutorials and access our team information.
Registration will be opening the beginning of January. It is important that you get set up on the new website as registration will be done on the website.
Save The Date
Please save the date for our Welcome Back to LVST Evening on Friday, February 8th. All three coaches will be there to answer all of your questions.
Lastly with 2012 winding down, some of you may be looking for a last minute contribution to lower your taxes (who knows what next year will bring regarding tax deductions). As a 501.3 C non-profit your contributions to LVST are tax deductible.
Have a great New Year and GO LIGHTNING!
