Junior Olympics: HUGE Time Drops & L. Rose breaks 50 Back Azot Team Record!

 

WINTER  JO’S – The only thing better than the weather were the AZOT swimmers!

AZOT Swimmers had another great meet this past weekend at the 2013 Winter JO’s, which were held at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. There were numerous highlights with many of our swimmers getting their Super JO times. Congratulations to All of the Swimmers who participated. GREAT JOB!

The Azot 2 swim group had 5 representatives at this past weekend at Junior Olympics. Swimmers included Haley Do (100 breast), Kelly White (50, 100 back and relay), Stephanie Lin (50, 100 breast, 100 fly and relay), Yi-Ann Li (100 breast and relay) and Timothy Lee (50, 100 breast and back and 50 free), all competing in the 9-10 year old age group. Timothy Lee made it back in the 50 breast on Sunday and 100 breast on Monday. Tim dropped 1 second his 50 breast with a time of 41.58. He also dropped 3 seconds in his 100 breast with a time of 1:29.62. Both 9-10 girls relays qualified for Super JOs in a few weeks. The 200 Free relay placed 11th overall with a time of 2:05.33 and the medley relay placed 6th overall with a time of 2:18.74. Coach Jacqueline is very proud of how her swimmers did and can't wait to add more swimmers to the JO team!

JO Highlights from Head Age Group Coach, Kevin Potter:

Congratulations to all of the participants at Winter JO's! We had a
ton of fantastic swims and enjoyed the wonderful warm weather. Here
are the meet highlights:

The girls 5-10 Girls Relays started off the meet with Super JO Auto
Cuts in the 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay. Leora Rose started
off the 200 Free Relay with a 29.52(first time breaking 30 seconds in
the 50 free) followed by Anna Wilde, Stephanie Lin, and Yi-Ann Li all
dropping more than a second off of their personal best 50 times. The
200 Medley Relay of Kelly White, Stephanie Lin, Leora Rose and Anna
Wilde took off 4 seconds off their seeded time and got 6th overall.
Kelly White's lead-off leg set the tone for the race and the girls won
their heat by a half a pool length.

The 11-12 Girls Relays did an amazing job placing 5th 200 Free Relay,
3rd 200 Medley Relay, 3rd 400 Medley Relay (Merrel,Zhu,Roberts-Oliver,
Jang), 2nd in the 400 Free Relay (Merrel, Roberts Oliver, Zhu, Cobian).

The 11-12 Boys Relays started off the meet with a solid 3rd place
finish in the 200 Free Relay(Wilde, Dewing, Park, Huynh). The A 200
Medley Relay(Sheen, Dang, Dewing, Wilde placed 2nd and the B
Relay(Vovan, Park, Schreiber, Huynh) placed 6th. The 400 Free A
Relay(Huynh, Sheen, Schreiber, Wilde) placed 4th and the B Relay(Dang,
Park, Dewing, Hwang got 11th. Jonah Dewing broke the minute in the 100
free for the first time with a 59.51 split. Caleb Park and Robert
Hwang dropped 2 seconds off their best 100 times. the B Relay dropped
a whopping 9 seconds off their seeded time. Great job boys! The 400
Medley A Relay(Wilde, Dang, Schreiber, Huynh) got 2nd place earning
the silver medal. Long Dang had an impressive Breaststroke split of a
1:12.8. The B Relay(Park, Hwang, Sheen, Dewing) placed 11th overall.
Caleb Park lead-off the relay with a personal best in the 100 Back.
Great Job Caleb!!

The Top Individual point scorer for the 12 and unders was Jason
Schreiber. Jason was the 11 year old JO Champion in the 400IM and 200
Butterfly.
He placed 2nd in the 200 Back, 100 Breast, 200 Breast, and
200 IM. Way to go Jason on all of your Super JO Auto Cuts and big time
drops!

Leora Rose set a new Azot team record in the 50 Back for 9-10 girls! Her time of 31.82 got
2nd in the meet.
Previous record was set 7 years ago. Old
record was 31.86. The new record is 31.82. Way to go Leora!!!

 Leora dropped time in every single race she swam
during the meet.
Dropped in prelims and dropped tons of time in the
finals. This girls knows how to race. Leora got 2nd in the 100 Fly,
3rd in the 50 Fly(according to USA swimming 3rd fastest time posted in
California this year for 9-10 girls), 3rd in the 100IM, and 4th in the
200IM. Way to go Leora!

Anna Wilde made it back to the finals in the 50 Breast and 100 Breast.
She got her best times in the finals to earn a Super JO auto cut in
the 50 Breast and just 2 tenths off the Super JO auto cut in the 100
Breast. Great job Anna!

Grant Sheen the "Backstroke Machine" was the 11 year old JO Champion
in the 50 Back and got 2nd in the 100 Back.
Grant placed 2nd in the
100IM, 3rd in the 100 Fly, and 5th in the 50 Free. Grant was able to
get personal best times in all of his swims. Great job Grant!

Henry Wilde had an impressive swim meet finishing 2nd in the 50 Free,
4th 100 Free, 2nd 200 Free, 3rd 50 Back, 2nd 100 Back and 4th in the
100 Fly. Henry celebrated his 13th birthday at the swim meet and
dropped time in all of his races
. Way to go Henry!

Aaron Huynh on Day 1 of the meet dropped 14 seconds off his best time
in the 1000 Free placing him 2nd for the 12 year old boys. His first
500 in the race beat his best 500 time by 10 seconds. Day 2 Aaron did
a time trial in the 500 Free and got his Super JO cut. Great Job
Aaron!

Julia Hahn got her best times in the 50 and 100 Breast placing 12th in
the 50 Breast and 100 Breast. Great Job Julia!!

Chloe Lew got 6th overall in the 50 Fly and got her best time in the
prelims and then lowered even more in the finals. Great Job Chloe!

Taelyn Roberts-Oliver made it back to the finals in the 200 Free and
200 Breast. Taelyn placed 6th in the 200 Free, 5th 200 Breast, 9th 100
IM, 9th 100 Breast, and 12th in the 200 IM. Taelyn got personal best
times in all five of her individual events. Great Job Taelyn!

 

                                                           MEET HIGHLIGHTS AND TOP SWIMS

 

9/10 Girls- Leora Rose, 2nd 50 Back, 3rd 50 Butterfly, 2nd 100 Butterfly, 3rd 100 IM, 4TH 200 IM. She also set a team record in the 50 Back, besting the record that was set in 1999 3 years before she was born.

                     Anna Wilde, 10th 50 Breast, 15th 100 Breast. The 50 Breast was Anna’s 1st Super JO cut.

The 9/10 Girls Medley relay team dropped 4 seconds for 6th place and the free relay team dropped 4 seconds to take 11th place. Relay swimmers Yi Ann Li, Stephanie Lin, Leora Rose, Kelly White, and Anna Wilde did a great job.

11 yo Girls- Chloe Lew, 6th 50 Butterfly

12 yo Girls- Eva Merrell, 1st 50 Free, 1st 100 Free, 1st 50 Back

                      Taelyn Roberts- Oliver, 6th 200 Free, 9th 100 Breast, 5th 200 Breast, 9th 100 IM, 12TH 200 IM.

The 11/12 Girls relay teams all swam well, finishing  5th in the 200 free, 2nd 400 Free, 3rd 200 Medley, 3rd 400 Medley.  Congratulations to the 11/12 relay swimmers: Eva Merrell, Taelyn Roberts-Oliver, Nancy Zhu, Claire Jang, and Ruthie Cobian.

13/14 Girls Relay- The girls swept the 200, 400 & 800 Free Relays winning all 3 events. They took 2nd Place in both the 200 and 400 medley, as well. Relay swimmers Gabbie Brown, Katie Glavinovich, Nicole Lin, Princess Ferguson- Nguyen, Sydney Okubo, and Joyce Yang dominated a very tough field facing anywhere from 12-18 teams in each of the races. Congratulations to the girls on an outstanding performance.

 

9/10 Boys-   Timothy Lee, 15th 50 Breast, 14th 100 Breast

11yo Boys-   Jason Schreiber, 2nd 200 Back,2nd 100 Breast,2nd 200 Breast,1st 200 Fly,2nd 200IM, 1ST 400 IM This is the first year that 200 of a stroke and the 400 IM has been offered to 11/12 year olds. Jason is to be congratulated for picking the absolute toughest events and swimming them like a true champion. Great Job Jason !

                       Grant Sheen, 5th 50 free, 1st 50 Back, 2nd 100 Back, 2nd 100 IM, 3RD 100 Fly. Grant is making a comeback in his 1st meet back after a knee injury.

12yo Boys-   Long Dang, 13th 50 Breast, 14th 100 Breast

                        Aaron Huynh, 2nd 1000 free Aaron dropped 14 seconds to make his 1st Super JO cut.

                        Henry Wilde, 2nd 50 Free, 4th 100 Free, 2nd 200 Free, 3rd 50 Back, 2nd 100 Back, 4th 100 Fly

11/12 Relays- Relay Swimmers Jonah Dewing, Aaron Huynh, Robert Hwang, Dang Long, Caleb Park, Jason Schreiber, Grant Sheen, and Henry Wilde all swam well. They took 3rd 200 Free Relay, 4th 400 Free Relay A team, 7th 400 Free B team, 2nd 200 Medley A team, 6th 200 Medley B team, 2nd 400 Medley A team, 11th 400 Medley B team. Congratulations to Coach Kevin Potter on a great Job with our 12 and under swimmers. On behalf of all the parents,  Thank you Kevin.
