Dear CSL Piranha Families,
Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about summer swim team again! Registration for the 2013 CSL Piranhas opens in a few short weeks but before we give you those details, we wanted to make a very special announcement:
After an exhaustive search, the CSL Broadlands Piranhas Board of Directors is happy to announce the hiring of Mercedes McGann and Eric Guessford as co-head coaches. We have every confidence that Eric and Sadie will do a great job this season.
Coach Sadie is thrilled to be returning to the Piranhas for her 8th year and first year as Co-Head Coach with Eric Guessford. Sadie began swimming at age 7. She has swum competitively for several year round swim programs including SNOW and NCAP (formerly Curl Burke Swim Club). Coach Sadie swam for the Briar Woods High School Swim team and received Varsity Letters all four years; she served as Co-Captain of the team her senior year with Eric Guessford. Sadie has been a member of the Piranhas for the past seven years.
Sadie began as a part time coach for the Piranhas in her freshman year of high school. During this time she also worked for the Curl Burke Stroke School working to teach proper stroke technique to beginning swimmers. Sadie became a full time Junior Coach three years ago. She continued coaching throughout the school year with the creation of the Piranha Pre-Prep (3P) program where her role was to create swim sets, teach correct technique and get the kids ready for the summer swim season.
Sadie is completing her freshman year at Christopher Newport University pursuing a degree in psychology. She plans to become an elementary teacher. Sadie looks forward to continuing her involvement with the Piranhas swimmers!
Eric Guessford is excited for his first year as co-head coach. This will be his twelfth season with the team. He has been a junior coach with the Piranhas for the past three years. He attends the University of South Carolina, where he is a rising sophomore and is studying mechanical engineering. Eric swam for the Briar Woods High School swim team for four years, competed in the AA-state meet in his final three years, and was a captain during his senior year. He was also a member, and captain, of the Briar Woods Crew Club. He looks forward to a very fun and successful swim season.
Jr. Coach Applications
As in past years, we will be accepting applications from swimmers who are 15 years or older for the Jr. Coach positions. More information will be sent out in a separate email with the requirements for the position as well as an application. Please keep an eye out for this information.
We know your swimmers can't wait to get back in the water with their new head coaches and teammates, so here is some registration information to add to your calendar. Remember, registration fills up FAST, so don't delay once your window opens up. If you miss your registration window, there is very little we can do about it once all the slots are filled. Last summer we filled all the slots within the first two weeks.
Returning Broadlands Family registration: Monday, March 4 - Sunday, March 17 (If you are a returning family and you have a new swimmer to add, you MUST email me with their name, DOB, and gender prior to March 4. If you don't, the system will not let you register them.)
ALL (New and Returning) Broadlands Family registration: Monday, March 18 - Apr 14
Non-Resident Registration: Monday, April 15 (space permitting)
As a reminder, the minimum requirements for joining the team are:
There will be a slight increase in the registration fee this year. After several years of no change, the Joint CSL and ODSL Board has decided to raise the registration fee to $135 per swimmer to offset rising costs, pay for new equipment, and continue to provide the Broadlands community with one of the most cost-effective summer sport activities in the area.
We are still finalizing our swim calendar but as soon as final dates are posted, we will send out more information about those dates, as well as reminders about registration. So please watch for further news.
Go Piranhas! Swim Fast!
