It is that time of year! Championship meets are upon us. This weekend 33 COOG swimmers will be racing at the Gulf Spring Champs I meet at the Pearland Natatorium. The coaches are looking forward to having all the hard work pay off and seeing some fast swimming. As we go into the championship meets, here are some tips to help you perform at your best:
- Keep Everything Positive! Remember swimming is fun and it is exciting to race. Cheer on your teammates, think positive, and eliminate negative distractions. Having fun and being positive is contagious.
- Be Prepared! As much as we want, things don't always go as planned. Be sure to be prepared. Have extra goggles, extra suit, extra cap, etc. When something happens, just take a deep breath, focus on your goals and what you need to do, and move forward. You are prepared to race, so stay focused on that.
- Embrace the Challenge! Everyone gets nervous before meets, it is what makes swimming exciting. Use that nervousness to help you. You have done this many times in practice and have stepped up to the challenge. You can do the same now. Just take a deep breath and let it happen.
- You are and always will be who you are! No matter what happens, your parents, friends, teammates and coaches will still be your parents, friends, teammates and coaches. Race as best as you can every time you step up on the block. That is what everyone wants to see - you at your very best!
