*****High School Swimming Updates*****

The high school swimming season is now in full swing, and Aquazot Swim Club athletes are turning in some impressive performances.  I attended the University HS vs. Corona Del Mar HS dual meet on Wednesday, and witnessed some great efforts from our swimmers.  Corey Okubo recorded county leading times in both the 100 fly (50.47) and 200 IM (1:50.74).  Christian Garkani had 2 wins as well in the 100 back(51.72) and the 200 free(1:43.68).  Sam Lee took first in a tight race in the 50 free(22.07), and also was 2nd in the 100 free(48.38).

Tyler Lin was the best among a very strong group of 100 breaststroker’s, as his 57.61 gave CDM HS the win.  Liam Karas had a win in the 100 free(47.66) and a 2nd place finish in the 200 IM(1:54.50).  Ken Takahashi won the high school distance event, the 500 free, with a very good 4:37.65.  Danny Tran in 100 back(51.90), Justin Hanson in the 100 fly(52.04), and Judd Howard in the 500 free(4:41.90) all scored 2nd place finishes.

For the ladies, Brynne Wong scored a win in the 50 free with a very good 24.58, as well as 2nd place in the 100 fly with a 57.55.  Annie Tran had a pair of 3rd place finishes with a 24.68 in the 50 free, and a 59.64 in the 100 fly.  Maddie Sanders was 2nd in the 500 free(5:28.12), and 3rd in the 200 free(2:05.12).

On Thursday, the CDM men were in action again, this time in a quad-meet against Capo Valley, Loyola, and Edison high schools.  Liam Karas and Christian Garkani were even faster at this meet.  Liam swam a 1:51.58 to win the 200 IM, and a 47.25 in the 100 free for a 2nd place finish.  Christian had a great 200 free swim, winning in a county leading 1:40.88, as well as winning the 100 free in 46.40.

In a dual meet with Mater Dei, Jserra and Aquazot swimmer Brittany Kahn turned in a quick 4:56.88 in the 500 free, which placed her 2nd.

At a meet between Edison HS and Newport Harbor HS, Thomas Smith turned in two wins, in the 200 free(1:45.70), and the 100 backstroke(52.86).

Congratulations to all of our high school swimmers on a great first half of the high school season!
