CSL Piranhas Weekly Newsletter (June 17, 2013)

Upcoming week at a glance:

  • Sat Jun 22 - “A” Home Meet vs. Franklin Glen Gators - 6:45 am

Attendance:  Any swimmer who expects to swim a Saturday meet MUST attend at least one practice during the week.  Unless your swimmer has been checked out for the week for a camp and/or vacation (or any absence approved by the Head Coaches) this attendance rule applies.

Wednesday practice this week: Please note, since there is no meet this Wednesday, 7/8 and 6 and under WILL have morning practices every day this week. Starting on Wed, June 26 (next week), 6&U and 7/8 will NOT have practice  on Wednesdays that have meets. Instead there will be clinics offered from 10-10:30, 10:30-11, and 11-11:30.  Look for signup sheets at the pool and more info in future newsletters.

This Saturday’s meet:

Meet-specific information will be sent out in a separate email, but real quick we’d like to remind you of two things:

1) When we host a meet (like we are doing this weekend) we reserve our parking lot for the visiting team. This means we ask our Piranha families to park across the street by the old stone house, or down the road by the Dunkin Donuts shopping plaza.

2) If your swimmer is not available to swim this Saturday, you MUST mark them absent through the TeamUnify system, even if you have informed one or more coaches of their absence. Here’s how to do it. Please do not assume your child will not be selected to swim this Saturday. Unless you mark them absent, they could be called upon to compete. Thank you!!

Some dates you may have missed (that were recently added to the calendar):

Picture Day is Wednesday, June 26th at 8:00 am.  Individual, Family and Team Photo opportunities. Order details coming soon.

Subway Spirit Night will take place at Subway (Broadlands Center – near Safeway), on Thursday, June 27 th, from 5PM until 8PM.

The Floats and Games Mid-Season Event will take place on Sunday, June 30. More details to follow.

The Broadlands Kids Triathlon will be held Friday July 12, at 9am. Registration closes July 5, or when they reach 150 participants (whichever is first.) This event is sponsored by the Broadlands ODSL Piranhas. Please visit their page for more information and to sign up.

TheEnd of season celebration will take place on Saturday, July 20.

From the Food and Drink Committee:

Concessions is off to a great start. We would like to offer a big THANK YOU to McDonalds and Walgreens in Southern Walk for their donations of ice and bottled water for our meets. Thank you also to our group of tireless volunteers that worked concessions at Time Trials.

A couple of notes for the families:

  •        We always appreciate smaller bills
  •        Remember muffins & coffee are available for purchase at Friday morning practice
  •        Menu suggestions are welcome
  •         Come hungry!

We want your help:

Parents we are creating a playlist for our summer swim season.  Music that will be played at our meets and team events.  We would like the swimmers input and yours as well. If you're on Spotify just follow this link and subscribe to our collaborative playlist.  You and your swimmer can then add to the list of songs.  Please no more than 10 requests per family.  All songs must be family friendly and appropriate for young children.  PLEASE NO DUBSTEP!!!!

Not on Spotify?  You can send all requests to Mike Sheehan at   [email protected]

Spirit Committee News:

"Calling all Singers!"

If you or your child, or a group of children, would like to sing the National Anthem at any of our home meets, please contact Melissa O'Rourke ([email protected]), our Spirit Chairperson, and she will assign you to one of the meets.

Look for our green "Spirit Buckets" for car markers to help you show your Piranha Spirit around town!  They will be available during morning practices. : )
