Wellington Meet Recap

Tough loss Hurricanes. Wellington won the meet by 90 points (2643 to 2553). We did hold the lead from the start of the meet through IM but lost it during Backstroke. After we lost the lead, we were not able to regain it even though it was close throughout. We will see Wellington again in a few weeks at divisionals. Even with the loss, we still had great swims and some team records fall. Congrats to Coach Zach for breaking both of his records in the 100 IM and 50 fly, with times of 1:03.34 and 27.90 respectively! As for the DQs we had 28 individual and 2 relay. The individual DQs are up from last week a little, but this is due to the fact that it was a tight meet and more official eyes on the pool. We also had a lot of swimmers get out of their comfort zones and try new events, which is always a good thing to see. Even though we lost, I feel that we learned a lot about this team's willingness to swim hard even when the score is not in our favor. This will help us be on the winning side of future close meets.

Up next for the Hurricanes is the Lake Ridge Lancers (2-1). Lake Ridge has wins against Dale City and Virginia Oaks. Their loss came to Dominion Valley. It has been a while since we have swam Lake Ridge. They are not the biggest team we will see this season but they do have a lot of quality swimmers. Lake Ridge is in the division above us, so that means another good test for the Hurricanes. Due to the 4th of July holiday and me being out of town Wednesday through Friday, the sign up deadline for this meet will be TUESDAY night. Remember there is no practice on the 4th and Tuesday night is pictures. I hope that everyone has a safe and fun 4th!! Once again please be aware of the TUESDAY night deadline for Saturday's meet. See you at the pool this week as the Hurricanes try and get back into the win column.
