This past weekend The Hurricanes, despite adverse air conditions shine bright at the 2013 “GAGS” in Savannah.
Four new team records were broken, giving us 107 new records in less than two years. Leading the way was 11 year old Piero Orderique, breaking 3 records, establishing 3 top 10 USA Swimming times, and winning high point for the outstanding 11 year old in the state. Piero has been dominating the country in the 200m Butterfly with the countries best time all summer. Going into the meet he was 1 second ahead of the next best athlete in The USA. However his time of 2:25.81 this weekend, he now bests every 11 year in USA Swimming by more than 6 seconds. Looking back over the last 15 years his time is the 5thfastest 200m Butterfly for 11 year old recorded. He recorded two additional Top 10 USA Times in the 100m Fly (1:09.35), and the 400m IM (5:28.23), placing 8thand 10thin the country respectively.
All three swims were New Team Records for 11-12 males. In toll Piero racked up 5 Gold’s, 2 Silver and 1 bronze medal to go along with his High Point Award.
Another New Team Record was recorded by the 11 – 12 girls 200m Freestyle Relay. The relay members were Kaleigh Feger, Madigan Starr, Katheryn Livingston, and Katherine Gramling, swam a 2:18.99, placing 16th.
One other scorer was first time @ Long Course States was 13 year old Chase Parker, finishing 6thin the 100m Freestyle with a very impressive time of 1:00.11.
Recording 100% Life Time Best swims were state championship rookies, Anna Beth Blankenship (9) and Lydia Myers (10) with 2 for 2 LTB’s.
Next up for the Hurricane’s is the season ending Sr. Zone Championships in Plantation, Florida Jult 29th– August 2nd.
