AQUAZOT SHOWED DEPTH AND DOMINANCE AT SENIOR INVITE
It was another exciting start of the swim season for the Aquazot Senior swimmers. The Riverside Aquatic Swim club hosted the Southern California October Senior Invitational SC meet at the Riverside Aquatic Complex. The Aquazot team was well represented by swimmers both from the Senior 2 and 3 groups participating in the meet.
The team perfomed very well according to the coaches. “Overall, everyone did well. I was surprised that early in the season the kids swam so fast. Which is a great sign! It means that we did not lose much over the summer”, said Coach Todd. According to him, at the first meet, most of the swimmers are getting back into swim shape. He was very pleased with how the team performed and continued its dominance. The Aquazot team won the 2013 Junior Olympic meet by a large margin. He thought that his Senior 2 group is a young team due to the influx of many swimmers from the younger group. He reminisced about his many top swimmers that have advanced into the Senior 3 group.
The team showed its depth in the many top finishes. Coach Todd highlighted George Horvath’s swim in the mile, nearly qualifying for sectionals! “Even though my group is an up and coming group, I am glad that everyone is stepping up and swimming fast,” said Coach Todd.
Coach Pajer was also pleased with the way that his group, Senior 3, performed at the meet. “The first meet of the season is always an educational process, trying to meld the group into a team. Seeing how they are together as a group and working together was very important. In comparison, the times that they swam was quite a bit better than it was a year ago.”
The team saw some significant time drops in best times for many swimmers, which was very impressive early in the year. Coach Brian Pajer highlighted a couple top performers at the meet. As the team veteran leader, Corey Okubo won a number of races. But according to Coach Pajer, Danny Tran also performed well especially in the backstroke with his personal best. On the women side, Katie Glavinovich had her personal best in winning the 200 backstroke.
Here is the list of the top 16 Finishers at the meet:
