Important News!

Dear Swim Families,

I have decided to step down from the position of Head Coach for the Amarillo Swim Team. Over the nearly 9 years I have coached these swimmers, I have tried to not only teach them to swim fast, but to discern what is important in life, and what is not. During this same period I have developed a serious health condition that demands that I give it my full attention at this time. I have become a Type-II diabetic. As much as I have truly loved coaching your outstanding swimmers, the time has come for me to coach myself. I have broken the news to swimmers, the Coaches and then you, their families. This condition can be managed, and eliminated if I do what needs to be done. I met this afternoon with the Coaches and then the team. In our meetings, I reviewed the expectations of our team and our swimmers, and spoke a bit about how this change would likely play out in the weeks and months to come. This message comes on the evening of those meetings.

I will remain on and serve the Amarillo Swim Team;in the role of Coach Emeritus. Although I will step away from day-to-day coaching, I am taking up many administrative duties, and will participate in the search for a permanent head coach and continue to be involved with the program and its future. You will continue to see me at the pool. This transition will be beginning after winter break, as I settle into my new role. I hope that this information is helpful. All best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and an Amazingly Happy New Year.
