The 2014 Winter CA NV Sectional Championships was held at the East LA College in Monterey Park.  The weather was hot, the air was smoky, and the AZOT team’s performance was smoking hot! Despite not being rested for this meet, the mighty AZOTS achieved seven National cuts and five team records fell over the long holiday weekend. 

The meet started off on Thursday with an amazing come from behind victory by Alex Peterson to capture the 1650 Free obtaining his 2014 Summer Jr. National Cut  and ended on Monday with Brittany Kahn coming in 2nd  in the 1650 Free breaking the team record by 4 seconds and obtaining her 2014 Summer Jr. National Cut. 

In between, Daniela Georges put on quite the performance the entire meet. She placed 2nd overall high point for the meet.  She broke 3 team records, achieved 3 2014 Jr. National Cuts and came 2nd in 5 of her races.  Daniela gave it her all, finishing 2nd in the 200 free to one of the fastest girls in the nation. D. Georges then came right back to finished 2nd in the 400 IM dropping 1.79 seconds.  The next morning in the most exciting race of the day, she placed 2nd in the 200 IM missing the win by just .57 seconds and finished up the day coming in 2nd in the 500.  Congratulations Daniela!

Corey Okubo had a phenomenal meet as well!  Corey took 1st place in overall high point for the meet. He achieved (2) 2014 Summer Nationals cut and (2) 2014 Summer Jr. National Cuts.  He placed 1st in 3 of his races and placed 2nd in another one. Corey had his hands full winning the 200 yard back by just .14 of a second.  The next day Corey won the 400 IM, adding just .24 off his best time and on Sunday, he won the 200 IM in a strong performance.  Congratulations Corey!

Other strong performances included Alex Peterson who took first in the 1650 free, 2nd in the 400 IM and  3rd in the 1000 Free; and Hunter Sa-Nguansap who turned in a great performance by placing 4th in the 200 Breast dropping -1.33 seconds to achieved his 2014 Summer Jr. Cut;  3rd in the 200 IM and  5th in the 100 Breast.
