Hello Saybrook Pool Families,
The pool is preparing for the 2014 season and registration for the competitive swim lesson program at Saybrook Pool will begin starting April 10th, 2013. These lessons are designed to better prepare your 3-7 year old for swim team in the future. Please note that while swim team staff runs the lessons, the swim lesson program is separate from the swim team. However, you do have to be a member of Saybrook pool. For membership information, please contact the pool president, Joe Stizman at [email protected].
Lessons will be one flat rate of $150 and will run 5 days a week from June 9th through July 11th. There will be no swim lessons on July 4th. July 14th-16th will be our rain makeup days. Our swim team coaches, led by Ruthy O'Malley will be teaching the lessons between 10:30am and noon in half hour sessions. More experienced swimmers will be earlier, with the newer swimmers starting later. This year, we have included an optional $5 social fee per swimmer. This fee is optional for those swimmers who wish to attend the Swim Team Socials (Kick off Party, Bagel/Donut Breakfast, and Shark/Pasta Party). Also, you have the option of purchasing a Saybrook Sharks tee-shirt for your swimmer for $6.
The lessons are organized according to age and ability, and broken down into Beginner 1- Intermediate 2 groups. There will be an initial limit of 30 spots open for swim lessons. The swim lesson levels are explained in detail in the “Swim Lesson Brochure” located on the Saybrook Pool website (www.saybrookpool.com) or on the Saybrook Sharks website at (www.saybrooksharks.org). You will also find the registration materials for swim lessons on the websites starting on April 10th, with ongoing registration until the lessons are full. Priority registration will go to those families who attended last year. New registrants will be on a first come basis. After 30 spots are filled registration will be temporarily closed and your child will be put on a waiting list.
When filling out your registration forms, please indicate to your best knowledge your child’s current level. If they are taking lessons now, please have the instructor advise you based on the criteria on the brochure. We will be placing the swimmers into groups based on age and ability. You should hear from us in mid-May regarding your swimmers exact time slot. Please note, that our goal is to keep the kids in the same groups, however, some changes may occur early on if it is in the best interest of your child. We will contact you personally if this is the case.
On April 9th from 4-5pm we will be having a swim team evaluation at the Kroehler YMCA training pool located on 34 S. Washington Street, Naperville. This evaluation is intended for any new swim team member who is 8 years of age or younger who has interest in joining the team but was not a member of the team last year. If you were in swim lessons last year and have any question as to whether your child is ready for team then we ask that you contact me and bring them to the evaluation.
If you are older than 7 or you are put on a waiting list, swim team coaches and lifeguards will be available for private lessons throughout the summer. A flyer listing the available teachers and their contact information will be posted at the pool this summer.
Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me at 630-809-1743 if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you this summer.
