LAMVAC Swimmer wins Pacific Masters Swimmer of the Year Award

At a ceremony during the recently held Pacific Masters Championships, Michael Thomas of Los Altos Mountain View Aquatic Club won the 2013 Swimmer of the Year award for the 18 – 24 year age group. This award is given to the swimmer who garners the most points in top three finishes during regional and national competitions in Short Course (25 yards), Short Course (25 meters), Long Course (50 meters), and Open Water.

Michael swims for the Los Altos Mountain View Aquatic Club, Foothill College, and formerly for Mountain View High School. He has achieved high rankings for all three teams over the past six years. His achievements over the past two years have consistently ranked him in the top 10 nationally in seven events. The versatile swimmer has also finished in the top six in the Coast Conference Championships in eight different events while swimming for Foothill College.

LAMVAC Head Coach Jose Bonpua is proud of his accomplishments. “Michael is a product of handwork and dedication to the sport. He sets the standards a little higher each time he shows up at practice and it shows in his performances.”

Michael is currently preparing to compete in six events at the upcoming U.S. Masters National Championships at Santa Clara Swim Center on May 1 – 4. He is excited to be swimming in his first National event against some of the best masters swimmers in the world.

Congratulations and good luck Michael.
