Swimming Practice begins tonight!

I should have sent this earlier, but I want to make sure everyone knows swimming practice starts tonight.  Sorry for any confusion and late notice.  Please try to join us this week.  I will be at the evening practices to answer any questions and do my best to make the Thursday morning practice.

 

SWIMMING PRACTICE TIMES

  • 7:00 -8:00 am for 10 year olds and younger   Please arrive 15 min. early.
  • 8:00 -9:00 am for 11 year olds and older.  Please arrive 15 min. early
  •                                                       or
  • 7:00 -8:00 pm for 10 year olds and younger   Please arrive 15 min. early.
  • 8:00 -9:00 pm for 11 year olds and older.  Please arrive 15 min. early.

Week 1 (May 27-29)

Intro, breathing, arm circles, body control, freestyle, floating, kick with board on front & back

Intro, freestyle, kick front & back, backstroke, intro to diving, accelerated swimmers may swim up

Intro, freestyle, backstroke, diving, no breathing going into walls, intro to butterfly and breast

Intro, free, back, breast, fly, diving, flip turns

All strokes, IM, work on sprints and 100's the first 3 days

Week 2 (June 2-5)

Intro, breathing, arm circles, body control, freestyle, floating, kick with board on front & back

Work on diving, intro to streamline (head down, dolphin kicks, pinch ears, tight arms) Intro Fly and Breast, lane awareness

Freestyle, backstroke, diving,  no breathing  going into the wall, continue to work on Fly and Breast

Free, Back, Breast, Fly, Diving/starts, flip turns, Intro IM, relay starts 

Free, Back, Breast, Fly, Diving/starts, flip turns, endurance IM, relay starts 

Week 3 (June 9-12)

Intro to breast, working on more breathing to the side for free, work on floating on back. 

Work on diving, streamline, MEET REMINDERS, tweak butterfly and breast, starts, turns, relays, kick sets

Free, Back, diving, no breathing into walls, butterfly and breast fine tune, IM, transitions, starts, turns, relays, kick sets

Free, Back, diving, no breathing into walls, butterfly and breast fine tune, IM, transitions, starts, turns, relays

All strokes, endurance IM, relay starts/finishes, TRANSITIONS, push 75's to simulate longer distance. 

Week 4 (June 16-19)

learn streamlines and holding breath, focusing on breathing to the side, having body control, and floating. Practicing 3 strokes. 

Work on diving, streamline, MEET REMINDERS, tweak butterfly and breast, starts, turns, relays

Free, Back, diving, no breathing into walls, butterfly and breast fine tune, IM, transitions, starts, turns, relays

Week 5 (June 23-26)

Intro to butterfly, if still diving off side have it mastered, intro to diving from block. Reviewing the other strokes.

Heavy lifting Week!! Work hard on everything 

Week 6 (June 30 - July 3rd)

Working on Breast and Fly, really encouraging the block, streamline and breathing.

By this time have IM/butterfly group. FR/Bk groups to practice in lanes.

Week 7 (July 7-10)

Tweaking any last things on any of the strokes, dives, and streamlines. Encourage all 6 & U to participate in prelims

Week 8 (July 14-17)

Mastery of Free & Back, Above average Breast or Fly, Exposure to both additional strokes, Ability to dive. 

Mastery of Free, Back, and an additional stroke. Mastery of diving. Exposure to the remaining stroke

Mastery of Free, Back, Breast, and Fly. Knowledge of IM. Begin to hone endurance.

Mastery of all strokes, including IM. Bulking up the endurance phase. 

Mastery of All components of swimming. Technical work ongoing. Team leaders!

 

What Age Group am I in?

If your son or daughter is still age 10 by May 31st, 2014 then they will swim in the 10 & Under group. 

The Fenton Swim and Dive Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Fenton Swim and Dive Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

6 and Under Age Group

This is our entry level group.  Swimmers in this group must complete at least a 25 yard freestyle in less than 2 minutes after week 2 of the season.

 

6 and Under Coaches:  TBD

 

7-8 Age Group

Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start technique.

7-8 Coaches: TBD

 

9-10 Age Group

Athletes in this group are exposed to training for the first time.  Swimmers are introduced to flip turns, IM turns, drills, etc.  Stroke technique is perfected at this age.  Athletes in this group train for the 100 yard Individual Medley.  Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged.

9-10 Age Group Coaches:TBD

 

11-12 Age Group

Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athletes development. Athletes in this group train for the 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard breastroke, 50 yard butterfly, and 100 yard Individual Medley.

11-12 Age Group Coaches:  TBD

13-14 Age Group

Athletes entering this group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present.

13-14 Age Group Coaches: TBD

 

15-18 Age Group

Athletes entering this group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of.  Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present.
