Yukon Invitational Championships (YIC) 26th- 27th April 201 hosted by Swim Yukon and WGB club
Swim meet in Whitehorse was a lot of fun for all kids. We could see plenty of best times followed by very big smiles. We had special guests from Alaska, Haines Dolphins Swim Team, which made the meet even more interesting. Great performance showed 10 years old Ruby Lieu- Ashthorn (coached by Mary Anne) showing her very efficient technique in every race.
Ruby Lieu-Ashthorn, Luanda Pronovost (10) and Amelia Barrault (9) are the winners of under 10 age group category.
Whitehorse swimmer Christopher Blakesley (9) won under 10 boys age group category, second was Brennan Palmieri (10) from Alaska and third Liam Simons (10) from Whitehorse. All those Glacier Bears swimmers are under coach Mary Anne's eye and they all are showing great technique improvement and it is nice to see them moving through the water so smooth at such a young age.
Another nice surprise was 50 m Free race winner Donnovan Bielz, who finished with a well deserved smile on his face, achieving his little goal and breaking 29.9 seconds!
Over all and very close with points 11 years old girls Rennes Lindsay and Hannah Kingscote were the strongest in their 11-12 years old age group this time. In boys 11-12 years old, the best at this meet was Thomas Bakica.
13 and over age group was won by Cassis Lindsay and Matthew Blakesley.
For all the youngest swimmers in the club this was the last and very successful day in the water this season. For sure our little swimmer from Teddy Bears, Liam Gishler (6 years old), brought a lot of fun to this meet finishing his 50 Free and 50 Back races. That was very rewarding to watch him in the water with older swimmer double his size.
During this weekend we had few new meet
Girls 11/12 - Rennes Lindsay - 400 IM - 5:52.26
Boys 11/12 - Thomas Bakica - 200 Fly - 3:31.99
Boys 11/12 - Aidan Harvey - 200 Back - 2:53.21
Boys 13/14 - Luke Bakica - 50 Breast - 38.92
Whitehorse Glacier Bears swimmers are still enthusiastic and willing to continue with swimming. This sport makes them very close friends and teaches good time organization. The club is looking for young kids willing to join our team from age 6. We also have a new TEEN squad, which is created for our ex swimmers from 13 years old, who are interested in many other activities but still willing to stay in touch with swimming friends and stay fit for life.
