Dear MERC family,

Every July, Mercury Swimming holds elections for open Board of Directors positions. As you know, MERC depends on the time and commitment of MERC families to keep the club thriving and healthy. This year, we are looking for someone to fill an open Secretary position.  If you think you might be interested in this position, feel free to contact outgoing Secretary Monica Stewart ([email protected]) if you would like to learn more about what the position entails. Self nominations are common and welcomed. Nominations should be sent to Monica Stewart ([email protected]).  

Also, to help the operations and activities of the club run more effectively and efficiently, and to better serve the various needs of swimmers and their families, the Board would like to solicit parent volunteers to assist with the following activities. Note that some of these activities have not been fully systematized or regularized in the past, but the Board would like to begin moving them in this direction: 

-coordinating and ordering MERC apparel, such as t-shirts and water bottles, for swimmers and their families (this would not include swimming apparel (e.g., suits and swim caps)

-updating and maintaining the database for MERC team records/best times in various events

-planning parties and team bonding activities with the Board and coaching staff

-managing the MERC website and keeping it up to date

-assisting with USA Swimming athlete registration

-coordinating MERC advertising and public relations (this would include assistance in writing and submitting newspaper articles about MERC and the club's activities)

-coordinating and ordering MERC Speedo gear for our swimmers (this would include swimming apparel (e.g., suits and swim caps)

-updating MERC pool information notebooks and related responsibilities (e.g., monitoring coaches' certificates and updating club insurance and practice schedules)

-overseeing membership care and relations (e.g., sending cards/gifts for members in need or other special circumstances)

-helping to create and dispense Welcome Packets for new members (including information on club and meet procedures, the yearly calendar of activities, the Board Members, and other useful items for new member assistance)

-coordinating and assigning parent timers from the club for swim meets when necessary
