NVST Shines At Local Meet

Napa Valley Swim Team age group swimmers recently competed in the St. Helena Endless Summer Classic C/B/A+ swim meet, held on Sept. 6 and 7. Over this two-day meet, not only did many NVST swimmers achieve best times, but there were many swimmers who finished in the top 8 in their events, or achieved new time standards. It was also a first for newcomers June Kelly and Melissa Arndt, who competed for the first time.

Achieving 100 percent best times were June Kelly, Melissa Arndt, Rachel Arndt, Keaton Flynn, Will Tokar, Gabe Cepoi, Shai Don Dupris, Emily Dusky, Yasmeen Jabarin and Michael Noonan.

Achieving new Far Western times were Sophia Samson (50 free and 500 free) and Iona Pascual (100 back and 500 free).

Achieving new Junior Olympic times were Barrett McMichael (500 free and 50 breast) and Emily Dusky (200 IM).

Achieving new “A” times were Alessandro Izzi (25 breast), Gianni Izzi (50 breast), Jack Larsen (25 back and 50 back), Lucas Padowan (50 back), Rachel Galvin (100 free), Madeline Maxim (200 IM and 100 free), Ismael Kahn (100 breast), Nicholas Cisco (400 IM), and Michael Noonan (100 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM).

In the girls 6-and-under division, June Kelly achieved 100 percent best times and a second-place finish in the 25 back and a third-place finish in the 25 free.

In the girls 8-and-under division, Melissa Arndt achieved 100 percent best times.

In the boys 8-and-under division, Alessandro Izzi swam to first-place finishes in the 25 back and 25 breast (new “A” time), second-place finishes in the 25 free, 25 back and 50 breast, and third-place finishes in the 50 free and 25 fly.

Gianni Izzi swam to first-place finishes in the 50 free and 25 fly, second-place finishes in the 50 fly and 100 IM, and third-place finishes in the 25 back and 25 breast. Jack Larsen achieved a new “A” time in the 25 back and 50 back. Lucas Padowan swam to a second-place finish in the 25 fly and third-place finishes in the 25 free and 50 fly.

In the girls 9-10 division, Rachel Arndt and Keaton Flynn achieved 100 percent best times. Rachel Galvin achieved five best times and a new “B” time in the 50 breast. Madeline Maxim achieved three best times. Sophia Samson achieved five best times and finished first in the 500 free, second in the 50 and 100 free, third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 50 back, fifth in the 100 back and sixth in both the 50 fly and 100 breast.

In the boys 9-10 year-old division, Will Tokar achieved 100 percent best times. Ismael Kahn achieved four best times and a new “B” time in the 100 free and 50 fly. Matthew Larsen achieved one best time and finished third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 100 breast, fifth in the 100 back and sixth in the 50 breast. John McNamara achieved two best times, which included a new “B” time in the 50 and 100 back.

In the girls 11-12 year-old division, Grace King achieved six best times, which included new “B” times in the 50 fly, 100 fly, and 400 IM (where she finished eighth overall). It was King’s first time competing in the 400 IM. Sarah Reynolds achieved five best times and in the 500 free, competing in it for the first time, she achieved a new “B” time and a seventh-place finish.

In the boys 11-12 year-old division, Gabe Cepoi, in addition to achieving 100 percent best times, also achieved a new “B” time (50 and 100 breast) and competed for the first time in the 200 IM. Keoni Cisco achieved four best times, which included a fourth-place finish in the 400 IM. Michael Izzi achieved three best times, which included a new “B” time in the 400 IM (fifth place) and a sixth-place finish in the 500 free. Robbie Maxim achieved seven best times, which included a new “B” time and a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM, which was his first time competing in this event.

Barrett McMichael achieved seven best times, new Junior Olympic times in the 500 free and 50 breast, and he finished second overall in the 50 free, 50 back, 500 free, 50 fly, third overall in the 100 free and 100 fly, and fifth overall in the 100 back and 50 breast. Another accomplishment for McMichael was him swimming the 100 free for the first time sub minute (58.78). Iona Pascual achieved five best times, which included the new Far Western times in the 100 back (second place) and 500 free (first), but also first-place finishes in the 100 breast, 50 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM, and second-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 fly. David Tokar achieved three best times.

In the girls 13-14 year-old division, Shai’Don Dupris achieved 100 percent best times and competed in the 500 freestyle for the first time. Emily Dusky achieved 100 percent best times and swam to first -place finishes in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM, and 200 free, second-place finishes in the 50 free and 100 free, fourth-place finishes in the 100 back, and a fifth-place finish in the 200 back. Yasmeen Jabarin achieved 100 percent best times and swam to a sixth-place finish in the 100 fly.

In the boys 13-14 year-old division, Shea Barrett achieved three best times. Nicholas Cisco achieved five best times, which included a new “A” time in the 400 IM (third place) and a second-place finish in the 500 free, fourth-place finish in the 200 IM and eighth-place finishes in the 100 breast and 200 breast.

Michael Noonan achieved 100 percent best times, which included new “A” times in the 100 breast (sixth), 200 IM (third) and 400 IM (second), which was also his first time ever competing in that event. Noonan also finished third in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 breast.

In the girls 15-16 year-old division, Emily Thompson achieved three best times and competed for the first time in the 200 IM and 400 IM, where she finished second overall and achieved new “B” times in both events. Thompson also swam the 200 free (second), 50 free (third), 200 back (third), 100 fly (third), 100 back (fourth), and 100 free (sixth).

The Napa Valley Swim Team is a year-round swim team offering competitive swimming with professional coaching and instruction for all ages and abilities.
