Fall Season Summary

The Fall Season sure went by quickly. We hope everyone had a lot of fun, learned a lot and made new friends! We welcomed 16 new swimmers to the team, including Laura, a foreign exchange student from Spain, and had 12 swimmers participate in their first ever year round swim meet.

The swimmers made a lot of progress throughout the season.  The majority of our Ruby group swimmers learned how to do legal breaststroke or butterfly and even tried swimming it in a meet. Many of our Sapphire swimmers attempted more challenging races such as 200s and even the 100 fly. Our always impressive Maroon group swimmers picked up many new state qualifying times. A special congratulations to AJ Peters who picked up his first ever state time!  Our senior group swimmers learned how to push themselves even harder during main sets.

Attendance is a key component of a swimmer’s success. We wanted to recognize the top attendance for each group during the Fall Season. Congratulations to the following swimmers who made the most practices in their group during the fall season: Sarah Seppala (Ruby OV), Brooklyn Echols (Ruby Marana), Amanda Lo (Sapphire OV), Canaan Chesnut (Sapphire Marana), Kayla Vasquez (Maroon Marana), AJ Peters (Maroon OV), Danielle Allen (Senior Marana), Lexi DeFrancesco (HS OV), & Mackenzie Kester (Senior OV).

All of this hard work paid off at the swim meets. We attended 5 Meets during the Fall Season. At those meets, we had a total of 824 swims and 67% of them were a best time! This is a significant improvement from last season where we averaged 60% best times for the season. Not only were we hitting best times, but we had many swimmers, swimming so fast that they made it on to our all-time top 10 list. We had 6 swimmers make it on to the top 10 list for the very first time: Mackenzie Lappin, Mateo Molina, Ava Parker, Anna Rockwell, Sarah Seppala and Jason Zhang.

In the 2013-2014 Winter Season we only had 7 team records set during the whole season and this year we have set 21 team records in just the Fall Season!!! We had 6 swimmers who set new team records:

Mackenzie's 11-12 200 Back record was the fastest 200 Back in team history for any age. Sarah, Katelyn and Erin all set team records in their very first time trying an event. Sarah set all 3 of the 8&U breaststroke records in her first time swimming the races. Katelyn set the 9-10 200 Breast record in her first attempt. Erin set the 9-10 200 meter back record in her first attempt at the race.  Congratulations girls, this is truly awesome!

Overall we had 92 swims that moved onto or moved up on the all-time top 10 list. This is especially impressive considering that during the fall season, most of our high school pirates compete unattached and are therefore ineligible for top ten swims or setting new team records.  Congratulations to all the pirates who made it on the top ten list, moved up on the top ten list, and set new team records!! You can find the updated top ten list and records under the records tab on the website.

In addition to tracking top ten swims, we also track number of best times and total time dropped for the season. As a team we had 562 best times and dropped over 42 minutes (2,558.31 seconds to be exact)!

Our Top 5 swimmers who hit the most best times and dropped the most time were:

While our high schools swimmers were not officially allowed to compete for us, they were doing extremely well for their high school teams. We had 19 swimmers attend High School state competing for 5 different High Schools (CDO, Ironwood Ridge, Mountain View, Catalina Foothills & Salpointe).   At state we had 10 swimmers make finals either individually or on a relay to help contribute points for their team. Alexis Hansen and Sammy Reeves helped Catalina Foothills to a State Title in the 200 Freestyle Relay! Way to go Pirates!! We are proud of you!!

We hope to follow up an AMAZING Fall Season with an even better Winter Season!!  If you are taking a break for the Winter Season, we encourage you to consider coming back for our Spring Season. The Spring Season will begin on January 5th and run through mid-March. This is the best way to take advantage of all the progress made in the fall season and be more prepared for the Summer Season.  Our summer season (SAAA swimming) will begin again in April and we want our swimmers to be as prepared as possible. We realize that January is a little early to be thinking about swimming for the spring/summer but if you want to get back in shape before the Summer Season this is the only time to return. We will not be accepting returning swimmers   in late February or early March as this is Championship time for the year-round season and the coaches need to be focused on preparing the swimmers for the end of season meets.

Congratulations to every pirate for a fantastic fall season! Way to go Pirates!!!
