Nutrition Workshop

On Saturday, December 20th, the Shorewood Swim Club is hosting a Sports Nutrition Workshop led by Sports Dietician Susan Kundrat, the Nutritional Sciences Program Director at UWM (please see the attached Bio). We are very fortunate to have Susan bring her expertise to our team, and this will hopefully be the first of many educational opportunities for our team.

The workshop is open to all Age Group swimmers, Senior swimmers AND their parents, and will be from 10:30-11:30 at Shorewood High School. The workshop includes the following:

  1. The workshop will focus on:
    1. High-energy eating for the teen athlete.
    2. Pre- and post-practice nutrition recommendations.
    3. Competition / meet fueling.
    4. Optimizing key nutrients including protein, carbohydrate, iron, and calcium.
    5. Quick snack and meal ideas.
    6. Question/answer time.
  2. Each swimmer will receive a copy of 101 Sports Nutrition Tips book (sports nutrition book for athletes, coaches, and parents).
  3. Each family will have access to an online Shorewood Swim Club Team Nutrition Manual.
  4. Optional professional personalized sports nutrition assessment and sports nutrition plan with Susan for an additional fee.

The cost of the workshop is $15 per athlete, and we will only be able to take the first 100 swimmers who commit. You can sign up for the workshop online in the “Events” section by Friday, December 12th. Your escrow account will be charged for the workshop on your next invoice.

Susan Kundrat Bio

Susan Kundrat, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN is the Nutritional Sciences Program Director at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. From 1993 to 2012, she held several positions at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, including Sports Dietitian for ILLINI Athletics and director of the SportWell Center on campus. She also consulted for several years as the Sports Dietitian at Northwestern University in Evanston. She is current a sports nutrition consultant to high school, club sport, collegiate, and professional teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Marquette Athletics, and UWM Athletics. The author of 101 Sports Nutrition Tips and editor of The Nutrition Edge, Susan is a frequent speaker and a contributor to Training and Conditioning Magazine. She is a co-founder of RK Team Nutrition (, a sports nutrition education program.

Susan was named “Registered Young Dietitian of the Year” by the Illinois Dietetic Association in 1997, and received the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition Excellence in Practice Award in Sports Nutrition in 2003. In 2014, she received the UWM College of Health Sciences Leadership Award. A five-sport athlete in high school, Susan was an All-Region basketball, softball, and volleyball player at Waldorf College, She received a BS in Dietetics from Minnesota State University-Mankato, where she led the Lady Mavs at point guard. She completed a Dietetic Internship from Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital, and received an MS in Human Nutrition from Iowa State University.
