Champ Season

 Hello Families,

Coming up soon you will start to receive some emails about the end of season Championship Meets in February and March. We would like to take a moment to provide a little information about these meets so you will know which one to sign your swimmer up for.

The first meet will be Short Course Champs I on February 14th, it is a one day meet. This meet is open to all 8-under swimmers on our team and is a timed final meet.

The second meet will be Short Course Champs II on February 20-22. This meet is open to all 9-12 year old swimmers and to any 13-14 swimmer who does not have 3 or more “A” times, this meet is also a timed final meet. If your swimmer is 13-14 and has 3 or more “A” times they are not allowed to swim in this meet and will have to attend Short Course Champs III. For all 9-12 swimmers looking to qualify for TAGS this would be the last chance to do that. At this meet all swimmers 11-14 may wear fast technical suits, if they should have one.

The third meet will be Short Course Champs III on February 27-March 1. This meet is open to all 15-over swimmers who are not qualified for Senior Sectionals and for any 13-14 swimmers that have 3 or more “A” times. It is a prelim/finals meet, and at this meet all swimmers that make finals are expected to attend finals. It's also the last chance for any 13-14 swimmer to qualify for TAGS. At this meet all swimmers are expected to wear a fast technical suit. If your swimmer does not have one or needs one, you will want to order them one as soon as you can.

The fourth meet is Senior Sectionals on February 26-March 1. This is the highest level meet our senior swimmers can attend within the state of Texas. At this meet, the senior swimmers will compete against the best swimmers in Texas and from teams outside of Texas. This meet is the first step to being able to compete on the National level. It is a prelim/final meet and all swimmers that make finals are expected to attend finals. To attend this meet each swimmer must have achieved a Senior Sectional Time Standard. All swimmers are expected to wear a fast technical suit at this meet.

The fifth meet is TAGS, which stands for Texas Age Group Swimming Championships. This is the highest level meet for 14-under swimmers and it will have the fastest 14-under swimmers from all over the state of Texas. It will be on March 5-8 and is a prelim/finals meet, all swimmers that make finals will be expected to attend finals. This is the first step for swimmers who want to compete at the Sectional level. To attend this meet, each swimmer must have achieved a TAGS time standard. All swimmers are expected to wear a fast technical suit at this meet.

The last meet is NCSA Junior Nationals in Orlando, Florida from March 17-21. This meet will have some of the fastest 18-under swimmers in the country, and is the first step at the national level for our swimmers. To attend this meet, each swimmer must have achieved an NCSA time standard. All swimmers are expected to wear a fast technical suit at this meet.

At the end of the season, everyone of our swimmers is expected to attend one of these meets, a few swimmers will attend two meets. This is the end of our short course season and attending these meets is good for a number of reasons;
1) All meets are scored championship meets and the more swimmers we have at these meets the more points we are able to earn to help the COOGS place as high as possible at these meets.
2) This will give the swimmers a chance to see all the hard work and time they have put into their swimming, and to be able to see the rewards of their effort and time
3) Lastly ending the season on a great note always provides great motivation going into the next season. The kids get excited on what they have done and what they can do in the next season.

If you have any questions about these meets, please feel free to speak to your swimmer’s coach.
