Weekly News (Jan 19-25)

Hello Panthers,

The New Year is well under way and the swimming pool, although a little frosty, are brimming with activity and excitement. We have almost 25 new young swimmers who qualified for our swim team, our returning swimmers are training hard and our Varsity Swim Team is tapering for their IASAS Championships in 10 days.

Important Notes:

There is a ton of information this week, so please read through carefully and do not skim J

Registration:

Registration for new and returning swimmers will close this Friday, January 23rd. There has been some changes to the Volunteer process, so please read the following carefully:

Volunteer Hours: PST is changing the way we track volunteer hours, from 4 hour shifts to individual hours. The total number of hours required remains the same. Families with 1 swimmer will now be required to volunteer 8 hours per semester. Families with 2 or more will have 16 as their requirement. The cost to opt out of volunteering will be 500 baht per hour.  This will allow much more flexibility in scheduling volunteers and even allow us to introduce some new ways to help out the team! Thank you for your support!

Palooza January 27th 1:30 start:

This semester’s all-swimmer time trial will take place next Tuesday at 1:30. Our Varsity swimmers will not be competing in the meet, so they will be coaching and officiating the meet. If you have not signed up please do so or your coach will be contacting you very soon.

Arena and other vendors will be here at Palooza for swimsuits:

All swimmers must have an all black swimsuit for competitive meets. There will be a variety of options for you to choose from on this day.

IASAS Championships:

There will be no practices held on Thursday and Friday for all swimmers. We will meet with our coaches and watch your Varsity swimmers compete. Remember to wear your appropriate swim team T-shirt for each day. Thursday is Black, Friday is White, and Saturday is Gold.

ES swimmer Volunteers needed to lead IASAS medal procession during finals:

From 3:00-5:30 each day we will need 3-4 ES volunteers (dressed in Traditional Thai dress) to lead the Medal Awards Processions to the blocks. Please email if you can do this for one of the days.

Schedule Changes:

Tuesday January 27th: Early Release and Palooza.

Practice start and finish times: We will be adjusting the start and finish times by 5 minutes.

10 and under swimmers: 2:25-3:25

11 and over swimmers: 3:35- 5:05

We have changed this so our coaches can have time to start the 11 and over swimmers in a better fashion. Giving them time to discuss the practice and supervise their dynamic warm up.

Tuesday and Thursday morning practices (5:30-6:30): These have start up again this week. If enough swimmers do not attend them we will have to look at discontinuing them again.  ISB also now has 5:30am lap swim for teachers and students, so this is available to all swimmers also. There is a lifeguard on duty

now.

Meet signups available

Away meet fees clarification:

For the travel swim meets to warrant sending a coach, we need at least 8 swimmers. Also, after 8 swimmers, the swim team will cover 50% of the cost of sending the coach to the meet. The rest will be divided between the swimmers travelling.

I will calculate the approximate coaching fees for the current travel meets and post them on each meet information page.
