Ventura County Star – Buenaventura Swim Club

Over the summer of 2014, Buenaventura Swim Club had a memorable season sending 4 swimmers to Junior Nationals in Irvine California to participate in the fastest meet in the country for 18 & under swimmers.  The season culminated with the crowning of Alex Valente as the National 18 & under Champion in the 100 Long Course Meter Butterfly, which placed him on the National Junior Pan Pacific Team.  Alex went on to win the Pan Pac’s in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 52.60, earning him the 6th fastest time in history for the 17-18 age group, with another year to improve on that ranking.  Bolstered by performances by Stewart Harrison, Solie Laughlin, and Brigid McNally, Buenaventura Swim Club earned “Silver Medal Status” in USA Swimming’s CLUB EXCELLENCE PROGRAM.  This status designates the team as one of the top 100 teams in the country.

Following up a fine summer performance, Buenaventura Swim Club has continued to perform at a high standard within all levels of its program.    The team has placed Alicia Harrison and Alex Valente on the California-Nevada All Star Team.  This elite group of eighteen Boys and eighteen Girls will face off against an All Star Team from Itoman Japan in Federal Way Washington on February 14-15.  Buenaventura Swim Club has also placed Teagan Monroe on the Pacific Coast All Star Team, in which eight of the fastest swimmers in the 11-12 Boys, 11-12 Girls, 13-14 Boys and 13-14 Girls from Southern California were selected to compete against swimmers from various regions including Pacific Northwest, Oregon, and Northern and Central California in Commerce California.  In addition, Tea Laughlin and Spencer Allen earned the right to compete in the Southern California All Star Festival, a group of some of the fastest competitors from Southern California who will form North, East, South, West teams and compete against each other.  Finally, the team will be sending Annika Arroyo, Teagan Monroe, Jason Talmage, and Spencer Allen to Palo Alto Stanford to compete in a dual meet against Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics, where they will tour the Stanford Campus, participate in post graduate presentations, and form enduring friendships with other All Star Swimmers.   For more information, visit or call 805-650-0400.
