RESCHEDULED: Sports Psychology for Parents w/ Dr. Michael Labellarte

To All MSC Parents and Athletes – The MSC Board is pleased to introduce the 2015 speaker series designed to for both parents and athletes.  Our three topics this year will be Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition and Safe Sport.  Below is the information for our first talk, Sports Psychology.  Stay tuned for scheduling details regarding our talks on Nutrition and Safe Sport.

SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY will be held as two separate meetings, one for our parents and one for our athletes.  As a former high school and collegiate athlete, Michael Labellarte, M.D. knows what it takes to compete.  An accomplished child and adolescent psychiatrist who is an expert on behavior management as well as anxiety management, Dr. Labellarte will offer his ideas to the swimmers and their parents on leveraging personal strengths, optimizing preparation, and improving individual performance.

Dr. Labellartes current practice centers around consultation and ongoing treatment of children and adolescents with complicated stories and complex psychiatric presentations. He utilizes psycho-pharmacotherapy, parent-management training, and other evidence-based treatment approaches.  His practices in Baltimore, Columbia, Annapolis, and Millersville.  The practice’s website is www.cpeclinic.com.

Open to all PARENTS – Tuesday, February 25th @ 6pm, the McCarthy Room.  Topics discussed will be:

  • How do psychological factors affect athletic performance?
  • How does participation in sports and exercise affect psychological and physical factors?
  • What is “grit, and can it be taught?
  • What is the value of team sports vs. individual sports in children?
  • How to parent, support, and guide your athlete through developmental stages…
