Meet Format – NOTE: Chase Starts!
They will be running two courses using chase starts. Typically girls events start at the dry land (building) end of the pool and boys events start at the scoreboard end. All heats of an event must be completed before we proceed to the next event. For example, if there may be 15 heats of girls 100 meter freestyle and 12 heats of boys; after the last heat of boys is completed we will run the remaining heats of girls 100 meter freestyle until finished.
Chase starts – when heat in the water has approx. 15 meters remaining, the next heat will begin at the opposite end of the pool and “chase” the heat that is in the water. Athletes must immediately exit the water upon finishing so the heat that is chasing can turn. This is not complicated once you see it in action. Whichever end you start at…ALL of your races will start at that same end. So when looking at the meet program you can ignore the events for the opposite gender. They do this to make the meet run faster! (and to confuse the coaches…HA!)
If lightning is detected within 10 miles of the pool the meet will be halted. Any heats currently in the water will be allowed to finish and then the pool and pool deck will be cleared of all swimmers, coaches, and spectators. The Bolles' gymnasium will be open as a shelter.
