June 10 Updates and Reminders

This week's meet is sponsored by

Lakeside Homes is a local, Fauquier County homebuilder of single-family homes on waterfront and wooded lots in Brookside. Lakeside homes feature craftsman style home plans with all the features you would expect from a quality homebuilder - stone front foundations, columns and large front porches, and lots of character and charm. Visit the sales model located at 7224 Heron place, Thursday through Sunday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm,  or call (703) 881-2176 for an appointment.
Nine years ago, when the Hurricanes moved to Brookside, the community was tipping the scales at approximately 250 homes.  Today, Brookside is home to more than 680 families, with new homes for sale in several phases in the areas of Lake Drive, Dockside Court, and Spring Run an Gates Roads.  For more information about opportunities in Brookside, visit the Lakeside Homes, Ryan Homes, or M/I Homes sales offices.
Wow!!! What a fast beginning to the season.  We've weathered  nearly three weeks of practices and our first meet is already here!  Hopefully everyone enjoyed the first spirit night with the first sno-cone of the BHST season.
The TEAM SHIRTS have arrived, and will be distributed during evening practices only beginning tomorrow night, Thursday June 11. If you do not plan on being at evening practices, please make arrangements to have a friend pick-up for you. As a reminder, if you registered after April 30th, we can not guarantee your swimmers will receive a team shirt. We will ensure that all swimmers registered prior to May 1 receive their shirt, and any remaining shirts will be distributed based on actual registration date.

The meet timeline is as follows:
6:10AM - 6:30AM - Sharks warm-ups
6:30AM - 6:50AM - Visiting team's warm-ups
6:30AM - Stroke and Turn Officials' meeting by scorer’s table
6:45AM - Timers' and Recorders' meeting near scorer’s table
RELAY ORGANIZATION: Getting relays together at away meets is more hectic than at home meets. We would like all of the 10 & unders to report to the relay organization area IMMEDIATELY after 10 & under warm up is over. We will announce where the organization area is before warm-up. Virginia Oaks has a small pool area, and therefore the relay area is most likely going to be outside the pool deck. IMPORTANT: if your swimmers do not check in PRIOR to warm-ups, and participate in warm-ups, they may be ineligible to participate in relays.
7:00AM - Start the meet; only racing swimmers, coaches, and working volunteers should be near the start/end of the lanes, or in the coaches area. If you are spectating, please abide by the VA Oaks set-up and only stand where spectators are permitted.
If you are new to the team, and are feeling overwhelmed, please let us know so that we can pair you up with another family who has swimmers of a similar age. If you are a veteran family, please go out of your way to introduce yourself to new BHST parents and remind your swimmers to look out for the 56 new swimmers on the team. We like to say that swim meets are the best organized chaos known to man, and the first meet of the season - away - without the benefit of time trials - will be no exception!
Remember that the League's focus this season is on SPORTSMANSHIP. Encourage your swimmers to shake hands with the swimmers in the lanes next to them once their race/heat is complete, and to practice good sportsmanship with fellow teammates as well, by encouraging and cheering teammates on. While individual times are important, we win or lose as a team.
DON"T FORGET TO PACK: extra towels, sweatshirt, sweatpants, sunscreen, water, healthy snacks, goggles, and cap. Music, a game, deck of cards, or a book are optional ways to pass the time between events.
See you on deck.
Go Hurricanes!!!
