Busy & Fun Week Ahead!

Greetings Swimmers & Families!

Welcome to the Braddock Heights Swim Team!  Our first two weeks of swimming are already behind us.  I am so happy with the progress everyone has made so far.  This coming week will be a very busy one, so I want to make sure everyone knows what’s coming up.   This week our practices will largely focus on preparing for our first meet, which is…

…Next Saturday, June 20, at MHS!  If your child is going to swim in that meet, you have to sign up in advance – by Tuesday at noon.   Go to https://www.teamunify.com/recfsbhb to sign up.  You may choose events your child will swim or you may leave it up to me.  If your child has particular things they want or don’t want to swim, please either choose events for them or make a note of their choices in the “notes” space so I know.   Also,  if they are unable to swim in a relay or if they need to leave before the meet is over, let me know that.  On the day before the meet, (and EVERY meet) you will receive an email from me with all of the meet particulars.  PLEASE NOTE:  If your child is NOT going to swim, please let us know that as well.  Instead of declaring that they WILL attend, just declare that they won’t.

There is NO PRACTICE on Thursday night because we are having a Team Spirit Ice Cream Social.  It will be at the Pavilion from 7 – 8:30pm, and I hope everyone can come.  It is always a lot of fun.  If you are a 13-Older swimmer and you would like to make up the missed practice, I will hold a practice on Wednesday night from 6-7pm at MHS.

Beginning this Friday, June 19, we will hold all of our practices at the Braddock Heights pool.  Our first outdoor practice will also be our first Fun Friday.  12-Younger swimmers swim from 8-9am, and 13-Older swim from 9-10am.  It is NOT from 8-10am for everyone, as you might think from the website calendar.   We will do a little meet prep, then play swimming games and have donuts.

On another note, this year we are excited to offer 13-Older swimmers the opportunity to be a Junior Coach.  If you like working with kids and think you may someday want to be a coach, this is a great learning opportunity for you!  We are hoping to have four Junior Coaches, each helping out one day of the week Monday through Thursday from 8-9am, starting June 22.  This is not a paid position, but you will receive community service hours.  If you are interested, please contact Coach Holly at [email protected] by Wednesday night at 7pm.  Junior Coaches will be selected by Friday, and trained by Assistant Head Coach Kameryn.

This year we are going to offer a new dryland practice for swimmers 13-Older.  Coach Kameryn will run a dryland group on Tuesday & Thursday mornings beginning June 23 from 8:30 – 9am, before swim practice.  Bring workout clothes and tennis shoes if you want a little extra training.  Attendance is not required.

Let me know if you have any questions.  I’m looking forward to a great week!

GO  BARRACUDAS!
