New Swimmer Assessments – Fall 2015

The Shorewood Swim Club is hosting assessments for new swimmers on Wednesday, September 9th (6:00-7:15 in the SHS Pool) and Friday, September 11th (5:15-6:45 in the VHE Pool).  Families should email or call to schedule an assessment, which will take about 15 minutes.

New swimmers should have passed Level 4 in Red Cross lessons or the equivalent, and be comfortable in the water swimming one length front crawl. The coaching staff will take each swimmer through an assessment of progressive skills to determine team readiness and group placement. Following the assessment, the coaches will instruct the family as to the appropriate group placement and how to register for the team. Practices for new swimmers will start on September 14th. Parents and coaches will be available to answer any questions that you may have about the program.

New swimmers typically join our Pre-Competitive (PC) or Swim League (SL) groups. Practices are typically offered three days each week (M,W,F) from 5:30-6:10 (PC) and 6:10-7:00 (SL). There are some days when times are slightly changed due to High School meets or Recreation Department programming, but the schedule is always online at our website. There is no practice requirement at this level, but the more often a swimmer attends, the more quickly they develop the skills necessary to improve.  Meets for new swimmers are optional, and coaches will indicate when a swimmer is ready to start competing.

Our website ( ) is our primary source of communication. It contains our practice and meet schedules, as well as other important news items. In addition, families will register for the team on the front page of the web site (upper right corner – “Online Registration”).
