USA Swimming National Junior Team includes 8 Indiana Swimmers

USA Swimming today announced its 2015-16 National Junior Team roster
honors  8 Indiana Swimming athletes. 

Claire Adams (Carmel Swim Club) 100 & 200 Backstroke and Chandler Bray (Avon Community Swim Team) 100 & 200 Breaststroke were both member’s of the Team USA squad at last month’s FINA World Junior Championships.

Other Indiana athletes named to the National Junior Team:  Anya Goeders (Mako Swim Team) 50 Freestyle, Veronica Burchill (Carmel Swim Club) 100 Butterfly, Hannah Kukurugya (Crown Point Swim Club) 200 Butterfly, Kyle Decoursey (Zionsville Swim Club) 100 Freestyle, Parks Jones (Avon Community Swim Team/Tucson Ford Aquatics) 200 Freestyle and Michael Brinegar (Columbus, IN) Open Water.

The complete National Junior Team roster, which is comprised of the top six swimmers in each Olympic event, can be found online  here. National Junior Team members must be age 18 or under on Sept. 1, 2015.

2015-16 National Junior Team by the Numbers:
• 114 swimmers named to the National Junior Team
• 33 states represented; California tops the list with 15 selections
• 80-plus USA Swimming clubs represented; Nation’s Capital Swim Club leads the way with eight selections
• 11 swimmers earned National Junior Team status in three-plus events

Swimmers were selected for the USA Swimming National Junior Team based on their times in Olympic events from the combined results of all USA Swimming and FINA sanctioned meets, as well as 2015 YMCA Long Course Nationals, from Jan. 1, 2015, to Aug. 30, 2015. The top six athletes in each event made the National Junior Team, however, relay lead-offs, time trials, swim-offs and intermediate splits were not included. 

Open water National Junior Team members qualified by placing among the top six 18-and-under finishers at the 2015 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships.
