PAC Fall-In Meet Report

The Hood River Valley Swim Team Osprey competed at the Portland Aquatic Club's Fall-In Invitational Swim Meet this past weekend at the Dishman Pool in Portland. A fun highlight of the weekend's competition included one of our swimmers achieving their very first state "A" qualifying times - Maxwell Graves (8 and U boys) in the 50 yd breaststroke with a 56.75. This time will enable Max to compete with the fastest swimmers in the state at the Oregon Swimming 10 & Under Championships in February in that event.

The Osprey had many other notable swims. Dhani Freeland (15 & Over girls) had the fastest 200yd Individual Medley in her age group for a win in that event, and was our only event winner this weekend. Dhani also finished 2nd in the 200yd free, 3rd in both the 100yd free and 100yd butterfly and was 5th in both the 100yd breaststroke and 50yd freestyle events. Nadia Smith (15 & Over girls) had three top 10 finishes, including a 3rd place finish in the 200 yd breaststroke, 6th place in the 200yd freestyle and 10th place in the 100yd butterfly. Celilo Brun (13-14 girls) did a personal best in the 200 yd butterfly and finished 2nd in that event along with two other top 10 finishes in the 200 yd Individual Medley (5th) and the 200yd breaststroke (8th). Clayton Lee (13-14 boys) broke into the top 10 with a 6th place finish in the 200 yd backstroke. Faith Ocheskey (13-14 girls) scored with a 12th place finish in the 200yd freestyle and achieved a "B" time in both the 200yd freestyle and 50 yd freestyle events. Jade Smith (13-14 girls) broke into the top 10 with a 7th place finish in the 200 yd backstroke. Miyuki Gerald (11-12 girls) dropped 5 seconds off her personal best time in the 50 yd breaststroke. Skyla Hollowell (9-10 girls) swam to a 5th place finish in both the 200yd frestyle and 100 yd Individual Medley, and achieved her first 10 yr old state "A" qualifying time in the 50 yd butterfly with a time of 37.85 and a 7th place finish. Nora Sandoval (9-10 girls) scored points in the 200 yd freestyle with an 11th place finish. Thea Smith (9-10 girls) had top 10 finishes in all four of her events - 3rd place in the 200yd freestyle, 6th in the 100 yd Individual Medley, 8th in the 50yd freestyle and 9th in the 100yd freestyle event. Ivy Collins (9-10 girls) had a three second drop for a personal best in the 50 yd freestyle plus swam two new events she had never done before including the 100 yd freestyle and 50 yd backstroke events. Michelle Graves (9-10 girls) swam to state "A" qualifying times in all four of her events - including the 200 yd freestyle a new event she hadn't competed in before! She also placed in the top 10 with 7th place finishes in both the 200 yd freestyle and 100 yd Individual Medley events.

Our 8 and Under team had a great meet. Willow Hollowell (8) placed 4th in both the 50 yd backstroke and 50 yd breaststroke events, and was 5th in both the 100 yd freestyle and 100 yd Individual Medley. Leah Sandoval (7) dropped 3+ seconds in both her 25 yd freestyle and 25 yd backstroke events. James Schofield (8) dropped 6 seconds in his 25 yd freestyle from when he swam it last month, and dropped 5 seconds in his 25 yd backstroke. Oliver Schofield (8) placed in the top 10 in all 3 of his events - 8th in the 50 yd freestyle, 9th in the 25 yd backstroke, and 10th in the 25 yd freestyle. Claire Couvreux (5) did a best time in her 25yd backstroke, while Colin Gerald (8) dropped 18 seconds in his 25 yd backstroke as well.
