Coaches Corner #8

Breaker Families,

For those of you that missed the team activity last Friday at the Boardman Y you missed out on a great time.  The kids learned to play pickle ball and we played a new version of Hungry Hungry Hippo that was was fun for those playing and those watching.  We will have to have another game night and play again.

Today is team pictures for all swimmers Swim Academy and Breakers from 5:15-6:30 hopefully.  We will start off with individual team pictures fro the Swim Academy members first at 5:45 then the team picture at 5:45 so make sure you have your red Breakers Y T-shirt and swim suit if you are doing individual pictures.  After the team picture we will do the rest of the individual team pictures.  If you do not have a picture form I will have some tonight for parents to fill out.

If any of you have not paid for your adult t-shirt and or personalized swim caps they will be billed to your card on file at the Y on the first of December unless payment is made before then.  Also on the first of December you Y account will be billed for the meet fees associated with the Muskegon Pentathlon, RAYS Swim Meet and possible the EGRA meet.  You can pay for these items before the first of the month at the Y reception desk or wait to be charged on the first of the month.

Next Tuesday is our Swim-4-Fundz lap night.  Swim-4-Fundz is our main fundraiser for the swim team and we encourage everyone to participate and help out.  Many of you have asked questions about why we are fundraising and what the money goes to since we do not have a requirement to fundraise any more.  Hopefully the explanation below answers those questions and explains what we use the funds that we fundraise for.

RE:  Fundraising 2015/2016
Welcome to the 2015/2016 YMCA Breakers Short Course Swim Season!  Exciting new environment,  lots of new swimmers and new requirements for fundraising and volunteering.  For those seasoned families, you will notice that fundraising and volunteering are not a  mandatory  part of the commitment to the team.  Fundraising is now   encouraged  for a variety of items and activities for our team that aren’t covered by monthly dues. this year, fundraising efforts focus on pool training equipment (jump rope, dryland mats, etc.), a team year end party, team gatherings/social times after meets and events, a scoreboard for the pool, National Championship Meet travel expenses, and coaches training in Chicago.  Unlike years past, fundraising is not for covering operational costs: pool fees, coaching, etc.
Volunteering for events will still be necessary for the program to run smoothly but volunteer time will not be tracked or credited to accounts.  The team fundraising is to help off-set the cost of having gatherings and food, snacks after events rather than have our families donate or make events pot-luck.
With that said, fundraising isn’t for everyone - we get that!  Some generous folks have expressed an interest in just purchasing items on the team’s wish list.  Thank you!!  To make sure the specific items are purchased, please contact Coach Jason directly, or check the Team Unify site for a current Wish List.
The attached flyer reviews details of the upcoming annual fundraiser that takes place on Nov 17th in place of practice.  Contact Coach Jason with any specific questions.
