INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Indiana Swimming is pleased to introduce John Mybeck as its new Executive Director.  Mr. Mybeck will join the organization January 18, 2016.

In this newly created position, Mr. Mybeck will be charged with partnering with the Board of Directors and staff along with coaches and volunteers from throughout the state to continue to grow the sport of swimming and to generate opportunities for Indiana athletes to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

Before joining Indiana Swimming, Mr. Mybeck spent 15 years with Strategic Marketing Affiliates, Inc. (“SMA”), an Indianapolis based collegiate trademark licensing agency, as its Chief Operating Officer overseeing the growth of the company from one client to over three hundred and sixty partners across the United States and Canada.  During the last year, Mr. Mybeck performed the role of Executive Vice President, Brand Management with Learfield Licensing Partners which was created via the merger of SMA with former competitor LRG after both organizations were purchased by Learfield Sports.  Mr. Mybeck was able to combine the external staff members of both companies and created a new structure based on accomplishing the overall goal of providing world class service to their now six hundred and eighty collegiate institutions and Conferences.  Prior to joining SMA, Mr. Mybeck was the Midwest Team Representative for Reebok working with colleges and high schools throughout the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Missouri and also served as the Assistant Director of the John Purdue Club, the fundraising arm of the Purdue Athletic Department.    

Todd Adams, General Chair of Indiana Swimming and the Search Team stated, “John has the right mix of business skills, passion for the sport and experience leading in a team environment.” Over 10 years ago the board engaged community leaders in a Governance study. The study indicated a need for the position. The departure of a long time and beloved employee created the opportunity for the board to move in this direction. Adams stated, “John’s leadership, the newly renovated Natatorium and renewed community support as witnessed in the sellout crowds for Duel in the Pool, positions us well for future growth of the sport in Indiana.”

“I am honored to have been selected by Indiana Swimming to be the first person to perform the role of Executive Director,” said Mr. Mybeck, “I look forward to having the opportunity to work with the unbelievably talented coaches and volunteers throughout the state along with the current staff and Board to create an athlete-centric environment that will accomplish the goals of building our base, promoting the sport and providing resources for athletes to achieve success at the highest levels.  We will continue to build on the already stellar reputation of Indiana Swimming and will strive to make Indiana the leading LSC within USA Swimming organization.”

Mr. Mybeck is a native of Munster, Indiana and graduated from Purdue University in 1990.  He and his wife Kathy have been married for seventeen years and have two children, Megan and Tommy, both of whom swim with the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (“FAST”).  They reside in Fishers, Indiana.-#-
