Coach DawnElla's Meet Recap: Sectionals December 18-22 2015

The weekend of December 18-22, 2015 I had the great honor and pleasure to accompany 10 Senior CAST swimmers to Sectionals in Los Angeles while the much missed Coach Dave watched and texted from afar.

All in all, the meet was a success with many near best and best times. Swimmer of the meet would have to be Morgan G who swam 2 relays with best times for her splits, and 3 individual events with best times in 2 outta 3: a stellar performance all around!

Race of the meet goes to Taylor L who was on fire in the 200 breaststroke on the last day of the meet. After dropping 2 seconds to get into finals, Taylor dropped another 2 to obtain a Winter Jr. National Cut and 5th. Taylor also swam a best time in the 100 fly and near best in the 50 and 100 free.

Carlson swam a best time and made finals in the 200 breast where he took home 8th. He also made finals in the 400 IM where he swam an excellent race after being called up, and down and up again as a alternate. Carlson also swam best times in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Sarah and Danielle made finals in the 500 free.  They also get props for having great attitudes and approaches to their races despite an occurrence of what became know as the “black lung”. OK, not really black lung but some nasty cold and coughing experiences. I admire their resilience and positive approaches to the races.

Mitchell and Chris came to their first sectionals meet and did very well. Chris swam at his best time in the 50 and 100 free and swam a best time in the 200 free. Mitchell swam best times in the 500, 100, 50 free, and the 100 back and a near best in the 1650.

Jason and Trinity swam best times in the 50 free and were near best times in the 100 free. Andrew was swimming at his best times all meet long showing smooth strokes in the water and leadership on deck. Andrew had near best times in the 50 and 100 free, and the 200 back – I think his best race was the 200 back.

We are looking forward now to a little rest and some holiday treats before getting back down to training for Senior Classic. Happy Holidays CAST!
