STAR Swimmers & Parents,
Coach Frances has arranged for us to have a month focusing on nutrition and healthy eating. Starting today, January 5th, STAR will be initiating a healthy eating challenge to all STAR swimmers and their families. Nutrition is key to a good performance in practice and at meets. Each Tuesday in January we will use our 5:00-5:30 dryland time to present that week’s healthy eating challenge. We invite all STAR swimmers and their family to come on Tuesdays in January to be a part of the program, even if you are not a regular Tuesday swimmer.
Today, January 5th we will kick off our challenge with Dr. Deana Melton a sports nutrition professor at NC A&T to talk about what you should be eating before and after practice to maximize your strength and energy. She will also talk about how to fuel your body during those long 3 day prelims and finals meets.
Each Tuesday in January we will have a new challenge for the week and hopefully help your swimmer begin the new year with some healthy habits that will enhance their swimming performance as we enter into our championship season.
We welcome all families to share any healthy meal or snack ideas with Coach Frances at firstname.lastname@example.org. WeI would love to compile them and share with everyone at the end of the month.
