Senior/Regional XII Championship Meet Report
Our girls took the Region by storm and scored enough points to put the HRVST in 17th place! We were just behind Vancouver Swim Club and just head of Columbia River Swim Team - so well done ladies!
Top billing goes to Dhani Freeland, who won the 200 yd Individual Medley with a team record time of 2:08.14! She broke Bethany Pendleton's team record that she had set in 1998. (For those of you who don't know Bethany, she swam at Olympic Trials in the 200 yd IM in 2004... and made big finals!) Dhani also had a 5 second drop in her best time in the 100 yd breaststroke, with a Senior Champ winning time of 1:06.91. Dhani also competed in the 100 yd butterfly (7th place - 59.98), 50 yd freestyle (31st place - 25.29), 100 yd freestyle (17th place - 54.64) and anchored our 10th place 400 yd freestyle relay. A senior in high school, Dhani wrapped up her last short course season with the HRVST in a big way. Next year the University of Idaho will enjoy having her compete for them at their collegiate championships.
Nadia Smith had a fantastic season ender this year. Nadia dropped 5 seconds in her 200 yd breasstroke (21st place - 2:37.66), She dropped 3.5 seconds in her 100 butterfly (32nd place - 1:02.68), she lowered her best time in the 200 IM by over 5 seconds (37th place - 2:18.70), finished 29th in the 100 freestyle (56.39), and scored points for the Osprey in the big finals of the 200 yd butterfly by swimming a personal best time by 4.5 seconds for a 14th place finish with a 2:19.67. Nadia was also a member of our 400 yd Freestyle relay.
Allie Burke continued her season after successfully competing at the high school state meet in the distance freestyle events, by placing 25th in the 1000 freestyle (11:45.42), 37th in the 500 free with a season best time of 5:42.00, and finished 68th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:09.51.
Celilo Brun competed in the 200 yd breaststroke, an event she just qualified for this meet for last weekend at the 11-14 State Championships. She swam to 46th place with a 2:47.86.
Faith Ocheskey continued her time improvements she started last weekend at the 11-14 Championships. She swam to a 72nd place finish in the 50 yd freestyle with a time of 26.35 (half a second faster than last weekend) and she moved well up in her seed in the 100 backstroke by finishing 43rd with a time of 1:04.04. Faith was also a member of our 400 freestyle relay, along with Courtney Castaneda who joined the team to help out with that 10th place relay finish.
These girls have trained hard all season, and I congratulate them all on their tenacity to keep improving and working hard even when society says "take it easy". It's what they learn by being a member of this swim team - that if you stick with it, hard work pays off! Great work!
