Spring 2 Swim Lesson Update

Good morning!

We are getting ready for our second spring swim lesson session and want to pass along a few tidbits in advance of your child's first day.

* M/W classes will begin on Monday, April 18. T/Th classes start up on Tuesday, April 19.

* Parking: Park on the left side of the high school building.  Be sure to park in parking spaces.  Please do not park in the grass or in any red zones.

Entrance: Use the left side entrance between the small greenhouse and the adaptive gym. This is the only entrance our programs have access to. A member of our staff will open the doors 15 minutes prior to your class time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes before your class, please wait patiently until we open the door at the designated time.

If you arrive late, you may call 530-2730, ext 4045 for the pool. Just let it ring a couple times and hang up. A staff member will come out to let you in. Please make every effort to be on time for your child's class.

The school building is locked after 2:45pm. We do not have means of unlocking doors and, for security purposes, ask that doors not be propped open. It's important to arrive on time as this building access is limited.

Before Class: Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your child's schedule start time. Locker rooms are available for use to change and use the restroom before class begins.  Swimmers and family members may then be seated in the balcony until the swimmers are introduced to their teachers at the start of class.

During Class: When your swimmer's name is called, you may escort them to the bottom to the steps where their teacher will meet them.  From this point, the instructors begin class and family members may view the classes from the balcony area.  Only Shippensburg Aquatic Club staff is permitted on the deck during the swim classes.  If your child needs to use the restroom, the instructor will excuse him/her to meet you at the locker room doors to escort them into the restroom.

After Class: Students are dismissed and may use the locker rooms to shower, change, etc as needed.

What to bring: swimsuit, goggles, and a towel.  All instructional and flotational equipment is provided.

Items not permitted in class: facemasks, snorkels, floaties, nose plugs, and any flotational equipment not approved for aquatic club use. Footwear is not permitted in the pool.

The first class will include minor assessments to ensure we have the proper placement for each child.  Adjustments to placement may be made to provide the best learning pace and environment for each child.

Instructors are available 15 minutes before the first class and 15 minutes after the final class to answer any questions family members may have.

Family members are welcome to watch the lessons from the balcony.  It can be warm in the pool area so dress accordingly.  Please allow for the children to work independently with the teacher and their classmates.  Refrain from shouting from the balcony or attempting to "coach" your child from the stands.  These actions are distracting for the students, instructors, and other spectators.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.  Thanks and we look forward to serving you!
