LCM Junior Olympics

Three swimmers from the Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons swim team qualified and competed at the Speedo Adam Szmidt Memorial LCM Junior Olympics hosted by Orinda Aquatics at the Soda Aquatic Center in Moraga, July 7-10. Eighty-two teams, totaling 1147 swimmers, were represented at this four day long-course (50M pool) event. Preliminary events were swum in the morning and the top eight qualifiers competed in the finals each evening. Natalie Baumgartner (girls 15-16 division) swam personal best times in both of her events: 100M breaststroke (1:20.08) and 200M breaststroke (2:55.87), placing 13th in each. Haley Hutchinson (girls 13-14 division) improved her time in all four events swum, achieved new Far Western time standards in the 200M IM (2:35.71) and 400M IM (5:29.93) and qualified for finals in both the 100M breaststroke (1:17.22) and 200M breaststroke (2:47.41), taking 5th place in both events. Dylan Hutchinson (girls 11-12 division) improved her time in six of eight events and achieved a Far Western time standard in five of those events including the 400M IM (5:39.42) and 800M freestyle (10:33.65).
