Short Course Intent

Shorewood Swim Club Families,

We hope that you are enjoying the summer, and are having a great season with the Shorewood Swim Club. Our Championship meet season started well with the Silver Meet last weekend, and we have 12&U State, 13&O State, Zones and NCSA Junior Nationals to finish up over the next couple of weeks. The last official practice is Wednesday, August 3rd.

We are already planning for the Short Course Season starting in September. We are finalizing our meet and practice calendars for the Fall, and have just finished the group placements for returning swimmers. All of this information will be available on the website by Wednesday, July 27th. Our fees for the Short Course season will be available in early August with the Registration Packet, but we do not anticipate a significant increase for the Short Course Season.

Each year, following the Olympics, our club tends to see a large influx of new swimmers. Four years ago, we were quickly pushed to capacity with over 40 new swimmers. Our goal is to make sure that we have adequate space in our groups for returning swimmers before we allow new swimmers to join the team. Since our numbers now are already higher than they were four years ago, we are developing a plan to make sure that we have room for our current membership.

We are asking that all families who intend to return for the Short Course Season please fill out the “Short Course Pre-Registration for Returning Swimmers” form online by Sunday, August 7th. This will allow us to establish the tentative size of each group, so we can focus our new swimmer recruiting efforts, determine which groups have space for new swimmers, and if we need to start a waiting list for families. Returning families will then register online as normal by September 1st, and start practices September 6th. New swimmers will attend the assessments on September 12th and 13th, and be able to register and start September 14th.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and enjoy the rest of your summer,

David Westfahl
