The Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons traveled to Napa for the Summer Zone 3 Championships held at Vintage High School, July 30-31. Each swimmer swam one or more personal best time and several achieved new Pacific Swimming Motivational Time Standards. Natalie Baumgartner, girls 15-16, improved time in two of six events and achieved a BB time standard in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.16). Jack Kroninger, boys 13-14, improved his time in five of six events including the 200-yard freestyle (2:36.84). Ali Wilson, girls 11-12, improved her time in five of six events and achieved B time standards in both the 200-yard IM (2:56.58) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:38.20). Elena Caranicolas, girls 9-10, improved her time in three of six events and achieved a B time standard in the 50-yard breaststroke (51.06). Xander Caranicolas, age 5, competed in two events and improved his time in the 25-yard freestyle (31.51).
During this same weekend, two other Sea Dragons qualified and competed at the Speedo Long Course Far Western Championships in Concord, July 27-31. Over one thousand swimmers, representing 96 teams from the western states, Canada and Mexico, competed at this five-day meet. Preliminaries were swum each morning with the top 8 qualifiers swimming finals at night. Dylan Hutchinson, girls 11-12, improved her time in six of seven events including the 800M freestyle (10:25.42) and the 400M IM (5:36.45) where she placed 10th. Haley Hutchinson, girls 13-14, improved her time in all four events swum and swam finals in both the 100M breaststroke (1:16.18) for 6th place and the 200M breaststroke (2:45.75) for 7th place.
