Aquazot swimmer Eva Merrell just completed a great week of swimming, winning an individual Gold medal and two relay Gold’s at the Jr. Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii.
Eva’s first gold came in the 100 meter butterfly. She was the top qualifier in the morning heats in 59.08, and she improved on her morning time with a 58.78 swim in finals to take the gold for the US. Rebecca Smith of Canada was the silver medalist in 58.84, and Gemma Cooney of Australia was the bronze medalist in 58.97.
Later that same night, Eva combined with three other US girls to win the gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay in 3:42.70, just out-touching Canada, with Australia picking up the bronze medal.
Eva’s third gold came the last night of the meet in the 4x100 medley relay. Swimming the butterfly leg on the relay, the US girls finished first in 4:02.82, a time that bettered the old Jr. Pan Pac record of 4:03.44. Canada finished second, and Australia was third.
Eva qualified for the Jr. Pan Pacific Team based on her strong performances at the US Olympic Trials two months ago. This was the first time Eva had qualified to represent the United States at an international Senior level meet.
Congratulations to Eva on a great meet and a great finish to the Long Course season!
