Weekly News (Dec 12-17th)

Hello all Panthers,

Two successful meets last week! Many first time long distance swims completed on Wednesday and some great last swims of 2016 for our 10 and under swimmers.

Gene Sunthornrangsri continued her assault on the record board by adding the 25m-backstroke record to her collection.

For this week our coaches have been planning some very fun festive holiday workouts, should be fun…so let’s see everyone out.

This week there are practices Monday-Thursday.

If you are traveling for this break, please travel safe and we will see you all back after the break. Practices resume first day back to school. Happy Holidays!

Important Notes:

Winter Break Training:

All sessions will be from 8:00am-9:00 for 10 and under, and 8:00am-9:30am for 11 and over.

Sessions are as follows:

December 17, 19, 21, 23, 27, 28, 30 and January 2 and 4th.

***Please note that these are lite swims for our team to stay in shape. The swimmer to coach ratio will be much higher and therefore this is not a drills/skills session***

Reminder: Changes for next Semester:

#1. Our Jr. Panther Program is now going to be a regular part of the Panther Swim Team; there will not be any differences between those squads and our other 8 & U squads. So starting in January, we will simply have 7 or 8 squads of 8 & U swimmers. 4 will train at our 50m pool and 4 will train at our 25m pool.

As with all age groups, there will still be a “non-competitive” option for those that do not want to compete in meets.

#2 Our 8 & U swimmers will now have the option to swim 3 days a week. This change was brought on because we had noticed that sometimes our younger swimmers miss practices due to illness or other scheduling conflicts. When they only swim 2x per week, they would sometimes drop down to only 6-7 training sessions per month and this is not enough contact time to make improvements in their swimming. We want to ensure all our swimmers have the opportunity to make improvements.

Tryouts for new swimmers: January 9th-12th (2:30pm at 50m pool)

All new swimmers are welcome to come tryout on these days, no appointment necessary. Please tell all of your friends!

Registration Opens during Winter Break:

Open this Thursday, December 15th so feel free to sign up before you go on holidays. You can make payment on Thursday and next week, or wait until first week back to school.

Dragon’s Den Swim Meet in Singapore: Minimum Swimmers Met will be traveling to this meet (April 21-23):

The initial interest in this meet has already surpassed the minimum number needed to travel so we will be attending this meet.

Let me remind all swim families how beneficial travel meets are for beginner swimmers becoming life-long swim team members. It is the times that they get to know their coaches and teammates much better.

Currently ready for Commitment (please mark “decline” or “commit”)

  1. Winter Swim Camp Phuket (Jan 6th and 7th)
  2. Bangkok Prep Puppy Cup January 14th (12 and under swimmers)
  3. ISB Splash Saturday (SCM meet): We host our international teams from all over Asia.
  4. ISB Splash Sunday (LCM meet): This is the 50m pool portion for the Splash weekend. It is a great experience for all swimmers to try long course swimming. There are qualifying times, so speak with your coach.

That is all for now, see you on deck!
