Happy New Year Weekly News

Hello all Panthers,

Happy New Year to all of you! I am sure 2017 is going to be a great year of growth and improvement for the ISB Panther Swim Team.

I sure hope that you had a very restful break...Your coaching staff is looking forward to seeing you out at practice this week. We will start today with our regular squads and regular practice times. There are quite a few age-up moves being made this week as we have many birthdays coming up over the next couple months. Your squad coaches will notify you of these changes (many of you have been informed already). If you are going to have a birthday before our Splash Meet in March, we will move up swimmers at the start of the semester so they are ready for the meet and their new age group. If you have any questions about this please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks to all the families that have registered already, the faster we get the whole team registered the quicker we can set the training squads for the second semester. So with a ton of appreciation I ask you all to register today if you have not already.

Important Notes:

1st Annual Winter Swim Camp Huge Success:

Thanks to the 45 swimmers and their families for participating in the first ever winter training camp at Thanyapura sports facility (Phuket) this past weekend. Although the weather did not cooperate with us as much as we would have hoped, the level of enthusiasm and participation displayed from our swimmers made the rain just seem to wash away.

Thanyapura was an amazing facility and they were great hosts for our camp. We have 2 in-water training sessions, 2 dry-land sessions, beach volley balls games, gym sessions and a 2km open water swim/run to finish the camp off at Nai Yang beach.

For this last beach session we were joined by the current 10,000m World Champion Gold Medalist and Danish Olympic Bronze Medalist from the Brazil Olympic Games. These ladies were training at Thanyapura and wanted to spend the after noon with our swimmers; what a great treat for our team. Thanks Thanyapura!

You can see photos on our facebook page.

Swimmer Register Open:

Swim team registration is open now until January 20th. Please register earlier than later.

Tryouts for new swimmers: January 9th-12th (2:30pm at 50m pool)

All new swimmers are welcome to come tryout on these days, no appointment necessary. Please tell all of your friends!

Bangkok Prep Puppy Cup this weekend (Saturday January 14th)

We have 58 swimmers traveling to Bangkok Prep this weekend for the first time. We are so thankful to Bangkok Prep for adding local swim meets to our schedule. Good luck Panthers.

Bus travel form has been emailed to all participants today, please fill out asap.

Reminder: Changes for next Semester:

#1. Our Jr. Panther Program is now going to be a regular part of the Panther Swim Team; there will not be any differences between those squads and our other 8 & U squads. So starting in January, we will simply have 7 or 8 squads of 8 & U swimmers. 4 will train at our 50m pool and 4 will train at our 25m pool.

As with all age groups, there will still be a “non-competitive” option for those that do not want to compete in meets.

#2 Our 8 & U swimmers will now have the option to swim 3 days a week. This change was brought on because we had noticed that sometimes our younger swimmers miss practices due to illness or other scheduling conflicts. When they only swim 2x per week, they would sometimes drop down to only 6-7 training sessions per month and this is not enough contact time to make improvements in their swimming. We want to ensure all our swimmers have the opportunity to make improvements.

Dragon’s Den Swim Meet in Singapore: Minimum Swimmers Met will be traveling to this meet (April 21-23):

We are approaching 20 swimmers for this meet, so let’s see if we can beat our attendance from 2 years ago. Last Dragons Den meet we traveled with 24 swimmers.

Currently ready for Commitment (please mark “decline” or “commit”)

  1. ISB Splash Saturday (SCM meet): We host our international teams from all over Asia.
  2. ISB Splash Sunday (LCM meet): This is the 50m pool portion for the Splash weekend. It is a great experience for all swimmers to try long course swimming. There are qualifying times, so speak with your coach.
  3. United World College (Singapore) April 21-23

That is all for now, see you on deck!

Coach Day,
