Zone 3 Winter Championships

 

Fourteen swimmers from the Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons swim team qualified and competed at the Zone 3 Winter Championships hosted at the Santa Rosa Junior College, January 14-15. Several swimmers improved one or more personal best time at this Individual High Point meet and a few achieved new National Motivational Time Standards. Highlights include:

 

Boys 8 and Under:

Xander Caranicolas (age 5) competed in two events improving his time in the 25-yard freestyle (22.63). Lalo Lopez (age 6) improved his time two of three events including the 25-yard backstroke (26.64). Dakoda Thompson competed in two events including the 25-yard backstroke (27.85).

Girls 8 and Under:

Irma Jimenez-Hernandez improved her time in three of six events including a 9th place finish in the 100-yard IM (1:57.27). Rhiannon McColley improved her time in three of six events including a 3rd place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke (52.64).  Savanna Oglesby competed in six events and took 7th place in the 50-yard breaststroke (1:01.02).

Girls 9-10:

Elena Caranicolas improved her time in three of five events and achieved BB time standards in both the 50-yard backstroke (42.55) and 100-yard backstroke (1:30.73). Adriana Salazar competed in six events improving her time in the 50-yard freestyle (34.31).

Girls 11-12:

Dylan Hutchinson competed in six events and took 1st place in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.80) and 100-yard butterfly (1:04.32) and was the girls 11-12 Individual High Point meet winner.

Girls 13-14:

Alexi Huerta competed in six events improving her time in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.25).

Boys 15-16:

Mitchel Walker competed in six events and took 5th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.82).

Girls 15-16:

Natalie Baumgartner competed in six events and took 4th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.83). Haley Hutchinson improved her time in four of six events and achieved A time standards in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.63) and 500-yard freestyle (5:42.66) for a 1st place finish.

 

            The Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons will be hosting a Fitter Faster Swim Clinic with Olympian Scott Weltz on Sunday January 29th at the CV Starr Center. The Sea Dragons are fortunate to have this opportunity to learn from a collegiate coach and Olympian.  The Sea Dragons will be competing again next month in Santa Rosa and Napa.
