Weekly News (Feb 6-11)

Hello all Panthers,

Congratulations to our IASAS swimmers for representing our school, and our team, in such a commending manner this past week in Kuala Lumpur. Both the girls and boys teams earned their way onto the podium for the bronze. Both teams also had many amazing personal best swims that earned them individual gold, silver and bronze medals. One of the brightest moments of the week came at the awards banquet when Chanon Sawintara recieved a standing ovation from his fellow swimmers for being awarded the lone "Spirit of IASAS Award" this year. This award is given to person, or team, that best embody the all that is good about sport and competition. For more on this story you can read the article written about Chanon and his IASAS journey. It will make you proud to be a Panther Swim Team member.

This years IASAS was the closest in the 35-year history. For the girls, 1-4th place was separated by 60 points, for the boys there was a 3 way tie for first after the second day (including ISB) and then at the end of the meet Singapore and Jakarta were tied with 245.5 points each.  Bringing the whole championships down to one relay, which Jakarta won.

Thanks also to the army of parents and family members that traveled with the team, it made the 3 days of hard work much easier. We would not have performed near as well without you.

The high school team has vowed to bring the excitement and enthusiasm that is IASAS back to our pool and push forward for the two big meets we have coming up over the next two months. So let’s all get working towards hosting our own International Splash Meet and the BISAC Championships in March.

Important Notes:

Volunteer Positions all Done… (but one)!

Only one volunteer position open for the next two months: Wow, thank you all very much! What a huge show of parent support, I am truly overwhelmed. You are putting in the exact same effort your swimmers are putting in the pool.

What a great team: Go Panthers! (Sorry still a little over zealous from IASAS cheering)

For those that did not get in to volunteer, we will be calling on you first for the remaining team activities and meets. See our team schedule for details.

Caps and Swim Suits for New Swimmers:

We will be handing out caps and swim suits for new swimmers on the two Palooza days. So please put it in your calendar to come to the 50 m pool, even if you are not swimming in the Palooza’s to pick up your cap and suit.

If you did not get a right size last semester, we should have our new suits in by these days also. Many, many sizes so we should have no more problems fitting our students.

Palooza Meets in February: Senior(11&Over) Feb 15th and Junior(10&under) Feb16th

Great warm up for Splash and BISAC Swim Championships. Try your best to swim at these events.

No Swimming on Feb 11-14th:

The weekend is our Annual Activity free weekend, then Monday is Maka Bucha Day, followed by no school day on Feb 14th.

Dragon’s Den Swim Meet in Singapore: Minimum Swimmers Met will be traveling to this meet (April 21-23):

We are approaching 20 swimmers for this meet, so let’s see if we can beat our attendance from 2 years ago. Last Dragons Den meet we traveled with 24 swimmers.
