Splash Week News

Hello all Panthers,

So exciting, Splash week is finally here! I am sitting in the Calgary airport all excited to get back and not just because it is -20 Degrees Celsius (see photo). I hope that all swimmers are out in full force this week polishing their skills for the big meet.

Please remember this is an Invitational Championship Swim-meet and it is so important to note that this is a team competition and we have most swimmers in 4 events and two relays throughout the day. This is a whole day meet, not a half-day or a meet where you leave after your last race. We have full awards after the meet and I expect all swimmers there. We have plenty of intra-meets where you come just for your own practice; this is not one of those. These meets teach our swimmer about being part of a big team and supporting each other. These are life long skills that we want our team members to have in spades!

Today I am emailing out the meet programs and Team Event Reports. Please write down swimmers events and make sure they know their events, heats and lane #’s. This is their responsibility. Coaches will be there for support, but then need to know. On our website we have swim meet prep documents that show you how to write the events on the swimmers arms or legs. It goes like this Event #/Heat #/Lane #. Your coaches can show you this week and the High School swimmers can help this Friday.

Important Notes:

Splash Instructions:

  1. Be on time for warm ups! Both days we will warm up at 7:00am. This means swim suit on and ready at 6:50 in the Gym.
  2. All swimmers will compete in our team cap and team swim suit, unless you have a pre-approved race tech suit. Be proud to wear our colors.
  3. Wear Black Swim Team Shirt on Saturday, Yellow Shirt on Sunday.
  4. Stay for the whole day and support your teammates. Then be there for the awards and clap loud for all award winners. Panthers show great sportsmanship.
  5. Bring healthy ENERGY filled snacks. NO junk food, candy, sugar, fatty greasy food. We have worked so hard to put garbage in our body on the big day.
  6. Have fun, fun and more fun!

Splash Spirit Night all-ages practice (Friday March 3) Beeee there…even if it is not your practice day!

These spirit nights are one of the best events the team puts on. The combination of excitement for the upcoming meet and the mixing of older swimmers with younger swimmers is just a great way to kick off the weekend. So please put this on your calendar and bring the whole family.

We will have snacks afterwards and it will be AMAZING!

***Spirit Night is the only Practice on Friday***:

There are no practices after 3:30. So please come to the 2:30 practice if at all possible.

Lap it up shirts:

Please bring in before Splash weekend. For new swimmers, you will receive your new shirt after we get splash swims on them.

Caps and Swim Suits for New Swimmers pick up after Splash Spirit Night (Friday March 3 at 3:30pm):

Our new swimsuits will arrive early next week, so we will have a table set up at the swim shack for swimsuit pick ups.  This will be for new second season swimmers or those that did not get their size last semester.

Sign up deadline extended to March 4th: Dragon’s Den Swim Meet in Singapore April 21-23:

We now have 19 swimmers for this meet and most have booked flights and hotels. Details can be found on the “meets and events” tab of our website. Currently, I will be the only coach traveling…but if we get up past 20 swimmers, I can bring another coach. So take the plunge and sign up.
