2017 Gene Lee Outstanding Senior Swimmers Announced
The 2017 Gene Lee Outstanding Senior Swimmer awards were presented at the 2017 Indiana Swimming Long Course Senior State Championships held at Purdue University from July 20-23.  This year's Outstanding Female Senior Swimmer is Samantha "Sammie" Burchill from Carmel Swim Club.  Sammie is the daughter of Bethany and Tom Burchill and has contributed to four IHSAA State Championships at Carmel High School.  She is a two-time IHSAA State Champion in the 200 IM and established a new State Record for that event this past February; Sammie has also been a member of multiple State Championship relay teams for Carmel and served as Team Captain.  She has earned academic honors for her work in Chemistry; she serves her community as a volunteer for the Carmel Dads' Club, and gives back the the swimming community by teaching swim lessons, working at clinics, and coaching.  Sammie will continue her academic and swimmer careers at the University of Georgia this fall.
Spencer Lehman, a 10-year member of Northridge Area Swimming Association (NASA), is this year's Outstanding Male Senior Swimmer.  Spencer is the son of Regan and Tracei Lehman of Middlebury.  As a member of the Northridge High School Swimming & Diving Team, Spencer was a 4-time All-Conference Selection and 4-year IHSAA State Qualifier.  In 2016, Spencer was the IHSAA State Champion in the 500 freestyle and runner-up in the 200 IM.  As a Senior this past season, he was the IHSAA State Champion in both the 200 IM and 500 Free with his time in the 500 being the 2nd fastest in state meet history.   Spencer is a USA Swimming Academic All-American and serves on the Northridge High School Student Council.  He is a member of the the Raider Motor Sports team and 4-H Shooting Club. Spencer will be continuing his academic and swimming careers this fall at Indiana University where he will be studying in the Kelly School of Business.
